<p>They seem redundant to me, since colleges already have your SAT (true, National Merit is based off the PSAT) and AP scores.</p>

<p>they dont hurt and theyre helpful because though a lot of people get them, they arent nearly as generic as some awards such as NHS and random stuff.</p>
<p>i mean, if youre like AP Scholar with Distinc. or something of that sort, thats already a fairly distinguished awards. As for Merit Semifinal. it definitely is worth it, but im not sure about commended scholar.</p>
<p>Son has never won any kind of academic awards at school (e.g. those the teachers give for the top students in their class, etc.) so he put AP Scholar and some other stuff like that on the app just so he didn't have to leave the section blank. If you have a bunch of real, specific academic awards, put those first.</p>

<p>I didn't put the AP Scholar one because it's basically just repeating what your AP grades are, and they're already on the application.</p>
<p>I got AP National Scholar so I put that on there. Even if its repeating it, it highlights the emphasis of your strong AP scores</p>
<p>Yeah, definitely put National Merit there if you're a semifinalist! If you have room, it can't hurt to put your AP Scholar award down too.</p>
<p>Its not that important, because so many people write it down, but also remind yourself that it also means nothing because there are many people who dont get the same oppurtunities as others.
Like AP Scholar and AP National, I mean the only difference is the amount of tests and most people cant take 8 tests, because they dont have resources. Likewise, for those who did not take the PSAT (like myself), will be not likely be hugely disadvantaged because its only a one-time moment thing and alot of things can happen
Colleges look at that, and although yes it carries some weight, it will not get you into college with those two alone</p>
<p>I agree with the above posters. I put National AP Scholar on mine to make sure, if they skimmed the AP score section, they know I did well on quite a few.</p>
