AP Score Effect?

Hi everyone, just got my AP scores and if anyone could give me their thoughts and feedback, it'd be much appreciated.
Biology-5
World History-5
Physics B- 4

I have managed to maintain my 4.0 gpa (unweighted) and my classes are the most rigorous ones I can take. If my school had a ranking system, I would likely be among the top 5. I've been looking at programs like REMS and HPME, but I guess the question is, how much does that 4 on the physics AP hurt me?

That one 4 is not going to sink you. But, this summer do some shadowing with a specialist physician ( my D spent days in a cath lab) or some unusual research to separate you from the pack. Because many of these programs are equal or just under ivy admission standards everybody in this section of CC should read Michelle Hernandez’s book A is for Admission.

Many pediatric specialties are greatly under served so become an expert on them and try to talk for 30 minutes without notes about one of these areas of medicine. You will stick out from the " I want to help people answer " that most give.

Okay! Thanks for the advice! I was just worried that a 4 would not be well received since these programs are so so competitive. I have already been working on a data analysis job at a local university this summer and I definitely plan to continue shadowing and working next summer as well.

Don’t worry about the 4 on phyiscs, it will probably have minimal effect. What matters more is your grade in the class which seems like it’s probably good.

Yeah my grade in the class was fine. I was just so tired for that AP as it was right after bio and just turned out to be a bad test.

Most of these programs don’t even look at AP scores. I had two 4’s out of the eight tests I took and I got into a BS/MD program which I am half done with. They look more at research and clinical experience, SAT scores, and GPA; these are the same things that are analyzed in medical school applications (MCAT instead of SAT). Good luck with those programs; they’re extremely difficult to be accepted to, even with a good application. You have to be able to interview like a medical student and show maturity.

phew that just took off a load of pressure off of me right there. Reading different threads here on CC, I’ve come to understand just how hard it is to make it into these types of programs. I’m certainly trying my best to be candid when I submit my applications, but seeing how terrific everyone else is, I am just not sure of how I stand among all the other interested applicants. Hopefully, I’ll at least get a chance to interview somewhere when the time comes though. Thanks for the solid advice skiier! :)
