This year, I got 5s on all of my AP exams (5 in total). Despite that, I didn't get As in all the AP classes that I took (4 in total). For me, the question is this: do colleges generally care if this happens? And if so, would that negatively impact the student's chances of admission?

Admission usually cares more about the grades, though if your high school is known for grade deflation, some colleges may take that into account (colleges which emphasize class rank avoid grade inflation / deflation issues, but run into differing levels of student competitiveness at different high schools).

Credit and placement into more advanced courses in college cares about the scores on the AP tests.
