The question regarding the impact that AP scores have on admissions has been asked countless times on the forums. The answer has always been that it has very little impact.

I would like to ask how you guys know this. I generally followed that AP scores don't really matter in admissions, but I got confused when I read "A is for Admissions" and now I'm not exactly sure why they don't matter, really. :1

It’s because not every school offers APs and some don’t offer them until senior year. So if considered it could give a potentially give an unfair advantage to schools that offer more APs. In addition, since they are used mostly for credit purposes, they are sent in officially after admissions and sending in the offical scores in twice would be redundant

My D didn’t send any AP scores until after she got all of her acceptances, and then they were only sent to the school she will be attending next fall

I just got confused because there was a section in the book of hypothetical admissions discussions in which the committee would talk about how impressive a student would be for getting high scores on her AP tests. Either times have changed (which I seriously bet they have) or… yeah, no, that’s probably it.

Since you are competing with the peers at your school, if your school offers AP, they become important in the admission process. Please refer to the link below as to how Stanford admissions officer evaluate the applicants.

^^ I agree that if your school offers AP classes then those AP classes are important because they count towards your course rigor and the rating your guidance counselor give you in the Secondary School Report (SSR). However, for 99% colleges, whether you score a 3, 4 or 5 on the AP test for each of those classes has little bearing on a college’s decision.

My son was told by an admissions admin that he wouldn’t have to take any optional but recommended SAT II tests because he did well on AP classes and tests. So that was good enough for him, and he didn’t. And by senior year he was all tested out so that was real plus for him!

@SoofDad What does “my D” mean? I see it used a lot on the site and thought it meant daughter, but then I saw DD being used. Can someone tell me? It’s driving me bonkers.

D=Daughter
DD=Dear daughter
DS=Dear son
DH=Dear husband
DW=Dear wife
K1/S1/D1= First child/son/daughter
K15/S15/D15=Child/Son/Daughter who is a member of the class of '15

Nope no one cares about pointless ap tests. Sure you could save money in the long run. But take college classes in high school. I took physics two and got 5 credits. Study your tail on the act/sat. I got a 34. While everyone was worrying about Thomas jefferson I was worried about a darn slope. I got into Air Force academy and stanford. I give advice to so many… Just don’t worry about ap tests. Sports clubs gpa sat and awards is where it’s at. Also a tad bit of luck :)
