AP Scores and College Admissions?!

I’ve been scouring threads and blogs and websites endlessly, but I still can’t find definitive information one way or the other. Do AP scores have an effect on college admissions at all whatsoever? I’ve heard ‘yes’, ‘no’, ‘in the case of GPA inflation suspected’, ‘depending on your scores’, and ‘leave me alone while I eat dinner’. Does anyone have definite proof or at least educated speculation? Thanks!

I have heard that scores are used less for earning class credit than they are for admissions purposes or class placement.

I’m no admissions expert, but I’ve had many friends get into top places. They were disappointed when they couldn’t get much credit out of their 5’s, but they were able to use them as a sort of resume line.

Taking AP classes makes you a more competitive applicant to any college. However, the scores are solely for credit.

Your scores are not seen by colleges, so they don’t have an effect on admissions. (Though it can’t hurt to report a bunch of high scores)

Some top schools like Harvard would consider your AP scores as additional SAT2. It would have minimal impact if anything as you don’t even need to submit official scores but self-reporting for applications.
