So I’m planning to major in political science. I have gotten good grades in my CC in my major requirement classes so I’m not worried about that part. It’s just that we’re required to send in all AP scores that we’ve taken in our app and I took AP Government in high school which I got a 3 on since I didn’t study for it at all. It’s not a bad score, it’s passing, but I’m wondering will admissions take that into consideration? It is what I’m planning to study after all… Also the AP score is listed as units given to me by my CC, since I transferred all my AP scores, although I know even without it I would fulfill the IGETC requirements so I don’t necessarily need it. but it is listed on my CC transcript.
I would appreciate any guidance. Thanks so much! (Good luck to you all!!)
3 is a passing score. It’s not going to affect your admission and shows them you did advanced study. Even a failing score has no affect. Plus, you get the extra units so you need to include it.
Yes, I used it only to fulfill IGETC, definitely not to satisfy the major class. Either way, I’ve satisfied IGETC even without it. I just wanted to make sure if it’d look bad. Thanks guys.
Uhhhh so I was going to use my AP gov credit for a social science requirement and then I have a more advanced American gov class to use for the major requirement. I think I read you could do that? Otherwise I’m screwed cause I’m not in school this year. Then I’d need to take a class online next semester Help!
@Molisha since you are OOS it’s hard to know what the UC will give you credit for. You can try using Assist.org to compare your major courses to see if you meet the UC’s requirements.
Ik for sure what credits of mine will transfer- I got into UCLA last year but I had to take this year off and they wouldn’t let me defer :’( The only thing is I switched majors so I just don’t know if I can use an upper division credit for an intro class ?!!? lawl helpppp
Hmmm, I’m not sure they will accept an upper division for a lower division course req. Usually, you are required to take all intro courses. Additionally, there is the small possibility if the intro class was a pre-req at UCLA for the UD course, you might not get credit for the UD after you transfer. Hopefully, that is not the case. Not trying to freak you out but they do analyze things a certain way. And then the there’s the AP, which may help.
But you had the course last year and got unit credit? So, probably, worse case scenario, you may need to take an intro course. Unfortunately, as it’s out of state, only the UC can tell you for sure.
I did apply this november! yeah that’s what I’m not sure about if I can sub and upper for a lower, I feel like I read that somewhere but ergh don’t remember =P I’m just more or less worried this will jeopardize my chances of getting accepted again. Oh well, worse case scenario would be I have to take an online intro class this year while I’m away from school
You will need to know in case you have to take a class in the Spring. Some Spring semesters at CA CCs start in January, some in February (i.e., those that have a Winter/Spring Intersession). Next week is finals week at UCLA so you might want to try contacting an advisor next week.
It could be better to take a CA CC course, even online https://cvc.edu/ But you’ll pay nonresident fees. The articulation of classes from CCC to UCs is defined, whereas for your state school, it may not be clear cut. Try to contact someone on Monday!
