AP Credit Transfer from High School to CC to UCLA

Hi, I'm trying to map out my schedule for next year and I was wondering if someone can explain to me the transfer process for AP credit. Here's my situation :

I am shooting to transfer to UCLA in a year in Political Science. I'm attending Skyline College and qualified for the Honors Program (which means I'm shooting to be TAP certified). However, I am also allowed to attend CSM (a nearby community college) as well, because they are in the same district.

During high school, I took AP US History, AP Government, and AP Macroecon. So far, I only received a 4 on my AP US History. Now, assuming I got a 3+ on AP Macro and AP Gov, what is the total effect on my IGETC/credit requirement? Will it satisfy certain areas of my IGETC which in turn would allow me to cut down on some courses (such as one history course during the summer)?

In short, "how many semester units will I be getting from my AP exams and where do they apply to?"

Also, I took Precal over the summer last year and got 5 credits from it, meaning I satisfied my Area 2 (Math) portion.

Here's my schedule so far :

Summer 2008 (already registered)
- Intro to Astronomy AST 100 (3 Units, Area 5A)
- American Politics PLSC 210 (3 Units, Area 4/Major Prereq])

9 Units

- English 100 (3 Units, Area 1A) [CSM]

19 Units

International Relations PLSC 130 (3 units, major prereq) [CSM]

Intro to Political Theory PLSC 150 (3 Units, major prereq)

Comparative Government PLSC 114 (3 Units, major prereq)

- Astronomy Lab 101 (1 Unit, Area 5A) [CSM]

16 Units/ 21 Units

I understand the risk that comes with taking a full courseload. But I am willing to take up the challenge.

US history will be 8 units, the others will be 4 units each; all in quarter system, so you can count on 10 semester units if that works out. Which would leave you with 59 semester units--precalc ought to bring it over 60.

To determine whether or not an AP course satisfies IGETC requirements, you'll need to look for AP test equivalence information from your CCC. Whatever course(s) your score is equivalent to may be used towards IGETC as if you had actually taken it.

To determine whether or not your AP course helps you with the 60 transferable unit minimum, refer to AP test equivalence information from your prospective university.

That is precisely what I am having trouble on.

Here is UCLA's Transfer Credit Website
UCLA Undergrad Admissions: AP Credit - College of Letters and Science

But that is on a quarter unit system? im trying to see what it means in community college semester unit. So I found this website

http://www.skylinecollege.edu/skycatalog/AP_chart.pdf

But again, it only transfers it to UC quarter units. I'm trying to look at this on a semester scale since Skyline is on a semester scale. And it's sort of confusing because on the UCLA website, it claims that AP US History cannot be used towards my general education, yet on this Skyline one, it claims it is used for Area 3B or 4?

I'll start with IGETC first. UCLA's proclamations on general education are irrelevant because IGETC is handled by your community college. You are not completing the UCLA GE; you are completing IGETC which is an alternative.

The other hurdle you have to pass is the unit minimum for Junior standing. You can figure this in either semester or quarter units, but since both your CCC and your prospective UC are on the quarter system you might as well look at it in terms of quarter units. You need 90 quarter units, and you can reach that minimum with credits that UCLA will award for your AP scores. If you did need to translate quarter units into semester units you could do so by dividing the number of quarter units by 1.5.

These are two separate issues, and I hope I've addressed them both sufficiently. (;

Oh sweet, thanks for the explanation of the credit conversation from quarter to semester. It hella helped. Now I dont have to take National, State, and Local Government and just take an easy 1 unit course like Badminton. Thanks, again.

i know they will give you credit for AP, but will they give you a grade for AP ?

So… I am a High school Senior. I am interested in 1 year transfer, too. But i have a lot of question:

1) Does CCC give you a letter grade or passing grade for your AP test? (cause i saw some some about i cannot have more then 14 unit in passing grade as a transfer student)
2) Also, do i need a 3/4/5 for getting college unit from AP test?
3) So, i know the deadline for summit a transfer application is on Nov 30. How can I know am I eligible to apply as transfer?
4) Do I still need to take SAT/ACT, joining club, and volunteering?
5) I took some college transferable class while I was attending high school, do those Unit count in that 60 units?

Thank you very much!
