I got 4s on the AP Chemistry and AP Physics C Mechanics exams, but I've gotten 5s on my 6 other exams (Calculus AB and BC, World History, English Language, Biology, and US Government). I feel like Chemistry and Physics are subjects where you should really get 5s if you're looking at very high level colleges. Or are 4s fine for even the ivy league?

No college requires submission of AP scores to determine admission. If you want to provide them in the hope the school might consider them, you just self-report them in the application or your essay. If you are going to report them, it is probably wiser to provide all because they will see that you took the AP courses in your transcripts and if you just provide some scores and not others, they may think you did horrible on the others. There is nothing wrong with reporting a couple 4’s along with a number of 5’s.

you’re fine. I’m curious as to why you took both Calc exams, it seems like overkill since they are almost the same test, no?

A Brown admissions officer said that it matters more when you take an AP class in the first place, to challenge yourself and show that you’re capable of college-level work.

Your two 4s are fine.

Thanks for the replies! For my (probably-ivy-league-bound) friends, getting 5’s is almost a given, so I wasn’t sure if I should be feeling bad or not. I guess it’s more of pride thing then, rather than a crucial part of admissions.

thatpersonphil - In my school, the highest math level that people usually reach is Calculus BC, in their Senior year. However, I took the class in my Junior year. And my teachers always made it seem like, if you’re taking an AP class, and you aren’t a senior, there’s no reason for you NOT to take the exam. So that’s why I took it, even though, yes, it was basically AB all over again.

APs really are not as important as SATs or anything. And 4s are absolutely find and fabulous

ohok. I was just curious. I also took Calc as a junior and took the BC exam so next year I’m taking AP stat since it is the last math class I have yet to take.

^^^ Consider doing an EPGY multivariable calculus independent study. AP Stat is a joke, taking multivariable calc is much more serious stuff.

i would take that through a local college, but i just don’t have the time. and stat may be a joke, but it will help boost my GPA for class rank, whoop.

p.s. sorry i have unintentionally hijacked your thread for the moment

^yeah, so take both.
