AP Scores

Two questions because I received two 5's on my APs and wondering to see the effect for Pittsburgh.

1) Will having two good scores have any effect for me on admissions?

2) I plan to major in Biology and received a 5 on the AP Biology exam, will I not have to take introductory Bio or will the credits just be used for electives because it is my major?

1) AP Test Scores play no part in admissions.

2) I have the same question.

If they see your test scores, I am sure they will consider them. I think it goes on your application.

You can skip biology. Whether you should is more debatable. At the very least you should skip the (useless) labs. I would consider honors biology or skipping intro biology. I skipped into with AP credit and it was a good decision.

So you’re saying that if I get in, to skip intro Bio correct?

I think CuttingEdge is saying you can either skip intro bio and take a higher level course, or go for the more in-depth honors version of the intro course. My son chose to not use his AP Bio credit and instead signed up for the honors intro class, in part because he comes in as a premed and wants to make sure he gets a good grasp of the material, and in part because he took the AP Bio class during his junior year and wants to refresh his memory before he moves into more advanced material. But it’s a personal choice and you shouldn’t let yourself be influenced, one way or another. What works for some may not work for others…

Regarding your AP scores in the admission process, I would guess that they will be considered once you list them on your application. At the very least they help paint a more meaningful picture about the student’s true proficiency since grades alone are not uniform across different high schools.
