AP Seminar/Research Credits

Harvard currently doesn’t list these under their AP advanced standing policy at all. Does anyone know if they will look to give this new class any sort of credit? I got a 5 on Seminar and am wondering if I should take the AP Research test.

Alternatively, let’s say they don’t take it my freshman year, but take it my junior year, is there anyway I can still get advanced standing from that, or will the time have already passed for any opportunities? Is this the same for other colleges?

I wouldn’t worry about the issue until after you’ve been accepted. Once accepted, I would contact the Freshman Dean’s Office and ask them directly: http://fdo.fas.harvard.edu/pages/contact

FWIW: only about 2% of Harvard admitted students graduate in less than 4 years. This is an old article on Advanced Standing. I’m not sure if today’s numbers have increased: http://www.thecrimson.com/article/1995/10/2/understanding-advanced-standing-pbgovernment-concentrator-nick/?page=single

@gibby Only problem is that I have no clue if I even should take it. The test costs more ($131) dollars, and besides a “capstone diploma,” that I assume will be nothing more than a “Congrats, you did it!” I’ll have nothing to get from it. The AP test is similar to a master’s thesis, so if I am taking it, I have to start NOW.

Then contact the freshman dean’s office after the New Year (they are closed until January 4) and ask them.

My advice: As 95% of students are rejected from Harvard, you should do something because YOU want to, not because of how it might look on your application, or what might happen if you actually get admitted. That’s true for Harvard or any college.

While @gibby is absolutely correct that you should not worry about it until you are accepted and that you should do what you want to do, Harvard does not give credit for these courses. But you can certainly call the FDO to get the info firsthand. Good luck.
