An administrator at my school came to my class and told me that my school will begin offering AP Seminar as an option for our English 2 credit. What are you all’s opinions about taking it?
Not worth it. I’m taking the class now. It’s a death trap and you don’t even get college credit.
I completely disagree with ims3ri0us. I’m currently taking AP Seminar, and it’s been such a great experience. So glad I got the opportunity to do it, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
Honestly, the teacher and your peers will make or break the class. Your teacher needs to have an extensive background in research (SERIOUSLY if your teacher doesn’t, you’re at a huge disadvantage) and the other kids in the class should be engaged in the work and passionate about something (if not, the class is gonna be a pain for you).
Be aware, AP Seminar is a ton of writing. I’m only halfway through the year and I’ve already written ~25 papers for this class alone.
And btw, a number of ivies and top tier schools offer elective credit for 5’s on the seminar/research exams.
PM me if you’ve got any more questions!
I’d have to partially agree with hilobanana, the teacher and your fellow students definitely can determine the enjoyment and also the amount of work you’ll have to put into the class. As for the amount of papers I’ve had to write for the class, the numbers pry around 6-9 papers. If you do take the class, however, id definitely advise that you pick your partners VEEERY wisely.
Little late here, but I definitely recommend AP Capstone. It can be hard, but the skills are applicable in almost every class. (you are doomed if the teachers suck, though). Many colleges don’t apply credit, but most ivies and some others endorse capstone. It looks good in the admissions process, and the research background is helpful no matter what college you go to or what you pursue. I heard of a student who got a full-ride to Vanderbilt based on research done in the class, but it may be a myth. I love the class.
@Rafalala For all you know schools will be giving credit for AP Capstone when I start college or a sometime during my time in college
