Which is better for me, AP Spanish or AP Chemistry? I have to pick between the two (can't do both) for next year. I only have two years of HS Spanish so far (I took second year Spanish freshman year and am taking third-year Spanish right now as a sophomore). As of right now, I plan on majoring in engineering or physics. I can't take AP Spanish senior year.

Also, which of the two AP courses will save me the most money in college?

Take Spanish next year because you can’t take it the year after, then senior year take AP Chem

You could consider self-studying for the AP Spanish and then taking AP Chemistry. I"m guessing your plan calls for AP Calc and AP Physics senior year.

I’d strongly advise against self-studying AP Spanish if you’re jumping in from level 3.

If I were you, I would take Spanish, because most colleges prefer at least three years of a foreign language, and it’s best to take them consecutively.

Engineering? Take AP Chemistry.

well…i don’t have much room for chemistry if i take spanish…i would have to take it senior year…there i would seem out of place

anyways, college-wise at least, i am not looking at any LAC’s at the moment, at least any that I have a sure chance of getting into

as for spanish, it seems weird that colleges would only care about the number of years of foreign language vs. level…most kids who do three years of fl finish in their junior year w/ non-AP third year spanish b/c they didn’t start early (in junior high/middle school)

Second ReachforDreams

“There i would seem out of place?” You care about that?

Try and self study for AP Spanish if you can, because AP Chem is much more difficult.

^ I don’t agree with this. The AP Spanish exam is designed to be challenging to /native/ speakers. (For example, it includes a synthesis essay, just like the AP Lang exam.) From what I’ve heard, it’s very difficult to get a 5 if you’re not native.

Personally, I took AP French this year (not nearly as difficult as Spanish, though it will be after this year) and found it much harder than AP Chem. And I spent a significant portion of my AP Chem class either sleeping or spacing out.

disregarding ap tests, do colleges really care more about the number of years of fl than the level one ends up on?

bah humbug…i’ll ask this question on a separate thread

You have a good amount of answers to your question and yet are asking it again on another thread. Is this because you do not like the answers? If so, you probably know what you want to hear and will probably do what you want anyway.

nah it’s another question…sry
