AP Stats or Honors Anatomy?

I’m a high school sophomore trying to decide the schedule for my junior year.
These are the classes I’ve chosen so far:
-AP English language and composition
-AP Microeconomics
-Honors Trig/precalc
-Honors chem (at my school you have to take honors chem before AP)
-Spanish 4/Gym
I have room for one more class and I think I will choose either AP Stats or Honors Anatomy, but I’m
unsure of what to pick. I think honors anatomy sounds more interesting than AP Stats, as i’m very interested in biology, but my AP bio teacher said that AP stats is a very good course that I should take before I go to college. I don’t think
I’ll have room for AP stats or honors anatomy in my senior year because of all the other classes I’m planning to take. Which course sounds more worthwhile?

I recommend AP stats. Statistics is a very useful subject and will give you new ways of looking at the world. Anatomy at the high school level is mostly memorization.

If you are planning on taking AP Calculus your senior year, then taking AP statistics seems kindof useless unless you are planning on majoring in something that requires stats! On the other hand, I do agree that anatomy is mostly memorization and is not very challenging, but it’s an easy way to get honors credit and having an extra year of science is always a good thing!

Even if the OP is taking AP calc senior year, taking AP stats is definitely not useless. Statistics is widely applicable through many fields, not just the sciences. Stats is also useful for reasoning about many everyday life situations. So I’d still strongly recommend AP stats.

@Luminouzz Have you taken AP Stats? I’m self-studying and need some tips!

I would go ahead and take AP Stats junior year, before AP Calc. Anatomy is a fun class you could take during your senior year. In my opinion, senior year is most definitely not the time to be cramming APs in. Stats is a very useful class to take. Keep in mind, most colleges will require you to re-take stats at a higher level and anatomy if you’re interested in the medical field.

Go for the class you think is more interesting. Having the word “AP Stat” or “Honors Anatomy” on an application would not affect your admissions decision at all. AP stat is a more practical class because statistics is used in most fields (especially if you are into bio and plan on doing research in your future). Honors anatomy sounds like a fun class if you really want to learn the inner workings of the human body. Ultimately, I think that colleges will re-teach you the information that you learn in each class (if you are going into bio, you will definitely have to take stats and anatomy again in most schools), so take the class you want to!!!
