AP tests vs. college tests

A 5 on AP is generally around 70% correct...that would JUST be passing in a college class. Are college tests easier, or why are the AP tests we take in high school scaled so much?

I had dual enrollment classes, and college is so much easier. For one thing, a lot of teachers curve their tests. Furthermore, everything is from your textbook or your professor’s notes. AP exams uses many books and have to cover a little of everything they state, so it’s too broad and that’s why nobody is expected to know everything.

In college, it’s just your professors syllabus. Do your problem sets, keep up with the readings, and you’ll ace most of your classes. I’m sure it’s harder at the top schools, but not a huge difference.

Professors generally write their own exams, so you know exactly what you’re supposed to know.

Depends if it is MIT Calculus I or not…?

Ok that’s reasurring. I am going into engineering next year, and I was a little worried because of how difficult I’ve heard the math classes are, and if I’m happy to get a 70% on a final…well lol.

Engineering is generally a tough major no matter what. I’d venture to say that it’ll be more difficult than your AP classes, but your grades won’t be 70s either because of curves.

Right. I’m not expecting a walk in the park by any means. My ap classes haven’t been difficult at all, but my teachers didn’t really hold to the curriculum either…

On that note, if I get a 3 on ap calc ab I can skip calc I…good idea?

If going into engineering, take Calc again (know someone who got a 5 on both AB and BC and is still taking Calc again)

Why do you say that? Just to have the basics down pat? I suppose an easy class when I’m adjusting to college life wouldn’t hurt…

Calc I in college is generally much tougher than AP calc. Even though some concepts are familiar, the level that’s expected is much higher. I had to learn calc through MIT OCW because we didn’t do much in school and the difference in difficulty between their course problems and the AP exam was huge.
