AP tests

With the Olin notification coming closer, has anyone else decided what they are doing about taking AP exams. Here’s my question. For our school, we have until 3/23 at 3pm to register for AP exams. After that, the school won’t order a test for us, so my kid won’t be able to test if I don’t register. If he gets into Olin (his absolute first choice), there is no need to take the tests, they don’t accept them anyway. That would be roughly $300 that I wouldn’t have to spend if I knew ahead of time. Is anyone else in that boat? What are you doing about it? Do you spend the $ and throw it away if admissions work in your favor, or skip the exams hoping for the best?

I don’t recall when acceptances are mailed. Drag your feet a few days… but if no Olin acceptance by 3/23 I say spend the money on the AP exams.

Yeah, $300 is a big hit. But oh, if the student gets in, it doesn’t sting quite as much. See this short video. Esp. after the 25-second point! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCNcNer6VHo&hl=en_GB&fs=1

@jeffgordon Thanks so much for the laugh. I certainly don’t need to be sold on Olin, as far as prospective parents go, we are probably the keepers of the Kool Aid. I’m sure that you’re right, if he gets in, the euphoria will buffer the sting.

My son was in the same situation a few years ago and the cost for him was close to $500. His school required him to take the AP exams senior year. I notified the school when I got the bill, since at that time he was already accepted into Olin- his first choice. He took them but they never asked me for the money again. I understand the need to take very rigorous classes through high school but I did have difficulty justifying $500 for exams that would not be used.

ugh - did your son get in? mine still hasn’t checked the portal - too nervous
