I am currently a HS junior and I am not taking any history classes in my junior year.
Currently, I am taking AP Physics 1, AP Calculus BC, Intro to Engineering, and Undergrad Research through George Mason University (My school district has a collaborative with that university as a semi-magnet school). At my regular high school, I take Data Structures and Algorithms (3rd-year computer science) and AP Language and Composition.
I am also involved in my school’s robotics and cyber defense team. As you can see I am not taking a history course this year and I am required to take one to graduate. I have already taken and received a 5 in AP World with an A. I severely messed up by not taking APUSH online the full year. My options are to either take it spring semester, summer, or the full year in senior year. Due to college apps etc., I am narrowing it down to spring semester or summer. Do you think I could fit the course content of APUSH into either block and still receive an A? Another note is that I have an internship this summer. Also, what online providers allow self-paced study and are quite lenient and well known.
Whoa, you seem to have a lot on your plate. Yes, if APUSH is required, you must find a way to squeeze it in. I’m not sure if you can fit the ENTIRE content of APUSH into one semester, especially when when I had APUSH, it’s a year long process to think about every single thing that happened here. What’s wrong with not taking it senior year? Just b/c it’s gonna be college app season doesn’t mean APUSH isn’t doable. It’s like saying I’m taking 6 APs my Senior year and it’s college apps season… and people still do it. (Sorry don’t know any online providers).
Take it on flvs.net if you must. But does APUSH really fit your story? I think it would be much better to take Honors because then you would be more likely to actually finish it or take it at a local community college.
Agree it will be really challenging to squeeze APUSH in one semester. DS’ APUSH class started in the middle of August, the teacher still does not think they have enuf time, he added two three-hour Saturday sessions already and will have couple more this semester. He is a very experienced APUSH teacher.
I strongly recommend against taking APUSH online; it is an extremely demanding class.
Because US History is one of those classes pretty much everyone in the United States takes in high school, I would take a standard or Honors US History class through an online provider (such as FLVS) or, if I felt more daring, through Dual Enrollment (like Waterborne said) to get college credits and to get the class over with without relying on my own pace. Be warned that DE classes are high risk, high reward. They can be extremely fast-paced and are generally unforgiving in terms of late work, extra credit, and absences.
As you seem to be a STEM type person, I would not worry about trying to fit in AP USH. Just take Honors US History.
