AP US Government and Politics: Which book is the best? The ultimate test!

^Glad to help!

Wow thanks! I bought crash course randomly, and found out it is actually good. Thanks for this it is really helpful! Could you please review cliffnotes too? I ordered a copy for self study, since I bought barrons and we covered most of it in 8th grade us history (which I’m in now)…so it’s probably too easy/simplified?

Actually I looked at cliffnotes too, and it seems similar…
Any texts anyone recommends?

The best textbook is Government in America, People, Politics, and Policy by George C. Edwards, Martin, Wattenberg, and Robert Lineberry AP Edition (14th Edition). Here is the link to AP Central. Check out the essay questions. It would be interesting to compare how Crash Course and Cliffs compare on the 2009 essays and other essays.

Wow thanks

^^That’s the textbook I used when I took the class last semester  Thanks a lot, this has really helped. I will definitely be looking at more resources in addition to PR then.

Crash Course seems to be a great new series in AP test prep! I wonder if the Biology, Chem and Lit/Comp Crash Courses are good as well.

I have the Biology and US gov crash course and I have to say I dont think biology crash course lived up to its expectations. I had high expectations after reading Direct hits for the SAT and crash course for gov (both by the genious larry kreiger) but the bio crash course is by a different author and it is hard to briefly explain biology and still understand it. The bio crash course is good (and a little confusing) but cliffs and barrons r much better i would give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. I guess I had such high expectations!

Sooo DK any reviews on cliffnotes or prs exact hits?
Sorry to be a nag I just wanna start studying

what about BARRONS? is it any good? better than crash course?

The Crash Course book really is very good. Amazing job chapters on key Supreme Court cases and key acts of Congress. Terrific review book. Definitely better than Barrons and much better than Cliffs and PR.

Wow, thanks a bunch dark knight. Reading your posts have been very helpful to me…I will definitely be purchasing crash course for my AP US Gov exam this year.

Is Barron’s not preferable then? Unfortunately, I just purchased Barron’s book a few days ago.

Barron’s is good - Crash Course is better. This is especially true with the exam now less than 4 weeks away. At this point you want a review book that is succinct and well-organized.

^^ Warts, are you also taking the AP US Gov test?

^^I’ll have to look into that. Thanks for the suggestion.

^Yes, are you?

My school ended APUSH so I was obligated to alternate classes. Luckily AP Government is solely one semester.

^Woah, your school ended APUSH? That’s like the most common and widely taken AP out there!

^Yes, but I attend a self-paced online school so the curriculum varies in addition to the time frames set for each class. It’s fine though, I’m more fond of government anyway.

I am taking it. The class was a big flop for me unfortunately. I have to compensate now by cramming in the whole course in a little over 20 days. Not feeling so optimistic.

That’s unfortunate. I need to compensate for the amount of time that I devoted towards the alternative class. Do you also recommend the Crash Course?
