AP US Government & Politics - Any Advice?

I'm currently taking AP US Government & Politics (not comparative) and so far, it's basically like a free period. I don't feel like I'm getting much out of that class - a lot of the assignments are usually just looking up current events and responding to them - which I don't feel is extremely helpful for the AP test. We have some class discussions here and there, but once again, it goes back to the current events and our opinions on it, but nothing substanial. Another issue is the lack of textbooks and materials for the class, so I don't have any resources.

The harsh reality kicked in for me for today: three weeks have passed by and I learned absolutely nothing in that class. Most of my other classmates feel the same way. I'm at the point where I'm planning on studying on my own terms for the course. Just little unsure about where to start and whether I could stay committed..

So basically, my question is how do I go about studying for the AP test, specifically from people who have experience with the course/test? I'm looking for any piece of advice in general. My biggest concern is the FRQs...

Thanks

Get a prep book, I hear PR is good for this subject.

I have the Cliffs version of AP US Gov & Politics, which I inherited from one of the upperclassmen. Is that sufficient?

Well, did you find the Cliffs version sufficient?

I would go with PR for this one, or any AP History Exam for that matter. I have used PR for Euro and APUSH, and it hasn’t failed me yet. As for the bad teacher, I would probably encourage your teacher to maybe administer some practice questions. Your teacher could get them off of the College Board website if materials are an issue. Maybe you could ask if they could gear class discussion toward answering actual AP material.
