***AP US History Thread 2015-2016***

My son is taking APUSH this year - his first AP class. He has always breezed by in history, but not this year! He is having a tough time. They are using America: A Narrative History 9th ed. Anyone else have this text book?

I did buy him the 2015 AMSCO book which he seems to like. I thought I might be able to find the answer key online, but I don’t think any of the links are for this 2015 version. Has anyone had any luck finding it online? Its really a shame the publisher will not sell it unless you have a school address.

Regarding the 500 flash cards…are they divided by periods or all jumbled together? Just wondering how useful they would be as a tool throughout the year, rather than just at the end before the AP exam.

Thanks for any help!

Sorry…thought of another question. With the Adam Norris videos, I don’t see that he has any chapter videos for the America: A Narrative History book. Does anyone know which videos would follow that book most closely?

Thanks again

MODERATOR’S NOTE:

If it were found online, it would have been posted in violation of copyright; therefore, do not discuss it here.

Sorry about that…I didn’t know. I wish I could edit my post.

Anyone have any input on my other questions? Thank you!

Do any of you guys use amsco review book for class?

Is yes, what page or chapter are you on?

I just got the score back on my first APUSH test in school and did poorly. I thought I studied well, made chapter outlines as I read. We use American Pageant 12th Edition.

My new plan is to get AMSCO and only use apnotes.net for the american pageant. Given I put in the effort, will this get me a 5 on the exam and As on the tests? Or do I need other resources?

Hi, I’m using The American Pageant 16th edition. Is it necessary to read the whole textbook to make a 5 on the exam? I’m willing to put as much effort as possible to score a 5. How many chapters do yall think I should read each week?

What prep book are you guys using?

I’m falling behind in AP US History. I’m barely in chapter 7 and the book has 41 chapters. Can you guys help me on pacing with the course so that I can finish on time?

We are using Amsco book in class

@uncletim32 Okay thanks I’m probably going to use that then because it will also prepare me for the SAT Subject Test. I’m also leaning towards getting Princeton Review for the practice tests.

@luigi66 Are you self-studying the class? Also are you using American Pageant?

Which books do you guys use in class?

My class is using the American Pageant

I use America’s History 8th edition

My son’s class is using America: A Narrative History 9th Ed. He actually enjoys the book, but the teacher is terrible. They get a new 40-50 pg chapter assigned every couple days and then have a quiz on it. There is no lecture or discussion prior to the quiz. The teacher is moving so quickly, they are on chapter 21 already and there are only 34 chapters in the book.

I wanted to add, I did get him the AMSCO to help review. It doesn’t align exactly with his textbook, but he still feels it is helpful.

Chpt 17 For us in American Peagant

My school requires all juniors to take APUSH but I really don’t want to… any tips for doing well? (apparently the class is super hard at my school)

If possible, can we discuss how we are doing in our classes in terms of grades?

Hey guys,

So I know that the APUSH exam got revised again this year, but I took it last year and I got a 5. I just wanted to share a couple things with you:

  • Adam Norris APUSH Review Website/Youtube Channel is like 90% of how I got a 5! Print out his study guides and finish them by following through the videos. THIS IS A LIFESAVER.
  • Crash Course is always good. I read it twice like two days before the exam. The important thing here is that it's used as a refresher/grounder for material you already have a gist of. I thought APUSH was much better than Euro since it was a lot more about trends and "big ideas." That's not to say that you can just skip out on knowing key dates/names, but it's a lot better than differentiating between all the freaking kings with the same name.

-You can get the AMSCO book too if you want MC practice. I got it, but I opened it like twice lol. It helped me in the sense that it just gave me experience on what to expect on the test.

-Practice your DPQs. My teacher really never made us do DPQs so I was really rusty when I took the test, but hey somehow it worked out. Just have a general idea of how you’re going to format it. The important part is that you know the process and have the style to back it up with.

That’s all I did! My APUSH teacher was really bad, but I still managed to get the five because of these things. PM me if you have any specific questions. I’ll try to answer them, but I know the test got revised.

Best of luck guys!

P.S.

I would stay away from PR and Barron’s for APUSH unless you really like them. I just feel like they’re just regurgitating the concepts and Crash Course can do that much faster and efficiently. Adam Norris, for me anyways, actually helped connect the dots for me conceptually.

P.P.S.

Don’t stress too much about your performance in the class. I bombed every test I took in APUSH, but got the five. Take note of the fact that it’s a new test so teachers don’t have the end all be all when it comes to judging your performance/readiness for the test.
