@ForwardAlways Thanks! Would you suggest the AMSCO book for the SAT subject test as well?
Did anyone on these threads take both euro and apush exams? Which was harder? I got a 5 on euro but I don’t know if I could do that for apush.
Hey 2016 APUSHers!
I took AP US History last year and although it was stressful, looking back I really enjoyed it!
My school doesn’t have AP World or AP Euro so APUSH was my first AP social studies class.
If anyone has any questions feel free to ask, but I will also give some advice!
- Read the textbook! My school uses The Enduring Vision. For the in class chapter quizzes (3020s) this is the most helpful! Also although quiz grades are low at first, you get used to them and improve. Once in awhile there is one a lot of people do bad on, but the quizzes generally have an upward trend.
- Practice essays and DBQs! My class was literally going over these right before the exam because we realized we hadn’t done them right on the practice exam obviously it turned out fine but be sure to familiarize yourself with the test!
- Focus on recent history. Chances are by the end of the year your class will be pressed for time, and a lot of the time recent history is rushed. However it is important to fully understand!
- Don’t. Procrastinate. Sometimes it is hard to avoid, but with many other hard classes I was frequently up late working on APUSH! Do your best to manage your time!
These are very general tips but if anyone has any questions let me know! Good luck everyone!
Also I used the Crash course book and a lot of online videos!
@Greninja The subject test is a little bit more haphazard. It’s more about breadth than depth. I would recommend the standard Barron’s for it.
@defaultnetwork Was that the new version that you got a 5 on? If so what prep book did you use?
What Cold War book(s) should I buy for APUSH? (My teacher won’t cover the Cold War unit in time for the AP Exam.)
Sorry for the double post, but I can’t edit my posts. Anyway, I want to get a 5 on the APUSH exam.
I haven’t learned much from my teacher so far, and I feel like we’re falling behind so much. I don’t think I have time to read the remaining chapters of the American Pageant textbook (so much material left to cover!) Do you guys think the AMSCO book would be enough to get a 4 or 5 on the AP exam?
What is the latest era covered by the APUSH 2016 exam? (Cold War? Contemporary? Something else?)
Reconstruction
The latest era/time period you need to know for the APUSH 2016 exam should be until present day, I believe. Though, I doubt they’ll question anything heavily about that. As long as you get to about George H Bush/Clinton time you’ll be fine.
Luigi66, I think that AMSCO is definitely a great prep book to get a 4/5 on the exam, but you’d better buy it soon and start reading it now. The book is 700+ pages (though a great deal of that IS practice quizzes, but still) and so it wouldn’t be very helpful to start using through cramming a week before the exam. However, if you are looking for a supplemental text it would be a great resource.
Thank you for sharing the resources! My textbook is AMSCO but it seems that Adam Noris hasn’t made review videos for this book…
Hi, I am a junior in high school and I have APUSH. The problem with that is I didn’t have a teacher for the entire first semester so we are way behind. Should I take the AP exam with a good chance of failing or should I just prepare for the CLEP and take that instead? If I don’t take the AP exam, would that lower my chances of getting into my dream school?
Dream school: University of Florida
@AaliyahB Adam Norris is there for you.

Watch ALL of his videos. Take LOTS of notes. Research any information that you need more depth on.
Buy an AMSCO book. Read ALL of the chapters. Take LOTS of notes. Do the Practice Multiple Choice and DBQ questions at the end of each chapter.
Go to the Collegeboard website. Do ALL the practice Free Response and Multiple Choice material. Check with the answers and guidelines.
Do this for three months and you should get at least a 4. Hopefully you’re not busy for all of this.
My class is currently on the Gilded Age but when we are moving into the Progressive Era with the Spanish-American War. I hope we are not too far behind.
@ObitoSigma No one has the time to do that much. Taking notes takes an incredibly large amount of time. I think it is just best to underline the text and review it later.
Did you guys start your prep books yet?
Our class is currently on the Roaring 20’s. I don’t know if that helps you, @ObitoSigma. We might just be ahead. Our school has two different APUSH teachers, and the other class just now finished WWI. You might be a little behind, but even if you are I doubt present day will be covered that much on the exam if you don’t get there.
My class is currently on the progressive era.
