How difficult is it? I'll be taking it next year as a sophmore and I want to know how much time I'll need to put into it. This will also be my first AP, since this is the only AP class in my school offered to sophmores.

Or what to expect with APUSH, to put it like that?

It depends on the school. At my school, we have about 10-20 pages a night of reading accompanied by questions that get suprise checks, and a quiz/test every few weeks.

I think I’m on the other extreme of the spectrum - our class grades are split up between homework (20%) which everybody gets 100% on, participation (10%) which is also a given 100%, and test/essay grades. Last marking period, our class had one test and three essays. So I think it all depends on the teacher that you get.

Really depends on the school. Your best bet is to talk to some people at your school who are currently in the class.

The class overall is simple. Basic memorization and recognizing big themes in history. Like everyone has mentioned: it depends on the school and teacher. In my case we have surprise ID quizzes, amendment quizzes and president quizzes. All of these help us remember certain events that happened during history so we can tie them into our essays.
