AP World History Dilemma

Okay well...I am a freshman taking AP World History (9th grade AP Course) because I was recommended to take it because I was above and beyond my class in 8th grade. My teacher is a real b!tch and we are guaranteed a C if we do all our homework and participate and stuff. Yesterday we took our 1st test and the average was a 67% and for the essay we get every weekend the average was a 3/9. Only 3 people got A's in her class in the last like 2 years and my parents are forcing me to take it regardless of the fact that I am probably going to fail like every test for the 1st marking period. The good thing is, she is a teacher that guarantees at LEAST a 4 on the AP exam in May.

Now I am predicting that I will in fact get a C in this course for at least this quarters and I might get a B 2nd, B 3rd, B+ 4th which will make my final grade in the class a B. If anything the lowest final grade for me will in fact be a C or C+. Now, I can DEFINITELY get a A+ for 4 quarters straight in Global History 9 honors easily and I know that an A+ in honors is way better then a C in AP..will colleges look down upon me with an C/B as a final grade in AP World History? Note I am looking at HYP, Columbia, U. Chicago/Michican, CLA, schools. If it really is going to affect me then I will certainly drop it because I am one of those people who can't live without an A.

This is my course schedule for anyone curious

1st - Math 10H
2nd - English 9H
3rd - Gym/Earth Science Lab
4th - Earth Science (non-honors)
5th - Lunch
6th - AP World History
7th - DDP (Design And Drawing For Production)
8th - Computer Programming Visual Basic/Digital Photography
9th - French 2 (non-honors)

I can get an A/A+ in all the class except for "maybe" math since it is not my forte and which is why I don't want to major in college anything math related :P. I might end up with a B+ in that class the 1st quarter but can try to pull off A's in 2nd, 3rd, 4th.

Thanks to anyone who gives me their input.

I got straight B's in Honors Chem my Junior year. When applying to colleges, I stated that I wanted to be a potential Chem Eng major. I got into all my applied schools, eventually matriculating at an HYP school.

That Chem class was a huge grinder but it really prepared me. I took AP Chem off site my Senior Year and got As.

Don't worry about the grades too much but focus on what you're being prepared for which is a solid performer even in tough classes. Frankly, feel lucky you have a teacher devoted enough not to just scoop bundles of worthless As and Bs to students.

I know this is only an opinion and I don't have all the facts but best of luck to you regardless.

If were to drop out, would it make it like make colleges raise their eyebrows in a bad way?

I don't see how you can drop it, unless you replace it with another social science. Is there a way to transfer into a non-AP course, at least at the semester break?

Considering most schools don't even offer AP World History, I don't think it could hurt you too much.

No teacher in the world guarantees a 4 on the AP test. You guarantee yourselves.

You sound sorta like me freshman year. The AP World History thing. Except I didn't take a class and independent studied it. It was the biggest joke of a test I have ever taken. Only maybe because I love world history.

I can switch my lunch period and AP period so I have Global History 9H in 5th and lunch 6th.

Why don't you ask your guidance counselor if you can do that? As soon as possible, I suggest. Every school has its own rules; sometimes they bend them, sometimes they don't. It seems to me, though, that you have been placed in a class that is not really appropriate for a 9th grader, and it is not unreasonable to ask them to let you switch.

My kids' schools offer AP World as a 10th grade class, and that seems early enough to me. My son thought it was not too bad in 10th grade, but my 10th grade daughter, who is taking it now, finds it to be plenty challenging.
