Hey, I have the 5 Steps to a 5 AP World History booklet and I’m studying that. Any other advice/studying tips from people that have taken this exam?
Maybe a Barron or Princeton’s Review book and of course looking over notes for the year. I’m also taking the test so I’m in the same boat as you.
Good luck!!
I recommend the 5 steps to a 5. However, most of my teachers say that the Barron’s book is a better resource since it goes into great detail, which increases your chances for a high score.
5 Steps to a 5 was very helpful. I feel like I did very well on the multiple choice, and decent on the essays. The practice essays provided were much more challenging than the actual exam.
I got a 5 on the AP world exam, I only suggestion to you is to complete as many practice tests as possible from review books such as barons or Princeton.
Study a lot the week before the test. I took AP World (with a class) and AP Euro (self studied) last year and spent so much time on my Euro prep that I didn’t study enough for World. I ended up getting a 4 but I was the top student in both AP World (10th grade) and World History H (9th grade) so I was expecting a 5.
It really isnt that hard if you put in the effort, get a few prep books, highlight them and make note cards and you should be good. Also find some review videos/lectures on youtube (Crash Course is entertaining but not the most fact packed) to listen whenever you are exercising or driving to school or whenever you have free time.
I used the REA Crash Course (very short, basic outlines, great for last minute review) book Princeton Review (great for practice tests general review) and Ethel Wood (good information, has excerpts from primary source docs, well organized, font and general layout is painful to anyone who is very design oriented).
If you do well in this class and enjoy history I would recommend taking AP Euro as well. It is accepted at more universities as it goes much more in-depth like a real college course would. I started self-studying in February (and procrastinated a lot) and was able to get a 5 and found the test to be more exciting than World.
I actually didn’t have that much time to prepare the week before due to the other APs I had to take, but I still got. 5. For history APs, I think it’s important to start reviewing earlier so that you really can absorb the information. I used the Barron’s and PR booms exclusively to prepare (I didn’t use my textbook at all to review). The PR worked nicely for the overall picture, while Barron’s was good for details. I solidly read through the PR, and ended up having to skim the Barron’s due to time restrictions.
I ended up getting a 4!
