@dogluvaaa Hmmm interesting… Perhaps you didn’t do as well on the MC as well as you thought you would ? Also, your teacher and exam grader(s) are not the same. They might have different opinions for groupings. I would go on the college board website and read the rubric carefully for all the essays again. Maybe you didn’t understand the prompt or what the essay(s) required you to do.
I’m sorry for the pessimistic tone of my opinion, but I would also highly recommend that you don’t ask for a rescore from the college board. To me, the college board’s system of regrading is simply a method of exploiting anxious teens like yourself in order to make more money. I’d highly doubt that your essay score would change again due to the College Board’s rigorous methods of grading the essays and choosing the people who grade the essays. In regards to MC, the scantron is graded using an electromagnet or something like that. The chance for error is almost zero.
Also, unless you are pursuing a career as a historian, which requires a degree in history, then your AP Credit won’t matter as much. You have the option of reporting the score to colleges if you want to show them that your are challenging yourself or that you have the ability to master rigorous material at the high school level. If you have an A in the class, then that should be more than enough to show for colleges.
But in the end, I am just a stranger on the internet who is expressing my opinion. You should call the college board itself, consult with your family, or talk to you teacher/academic counselor. Good luck in your future endeavors ! And remember… It’s just this one test that you didn’t do as well as you thought you would. This one test will not determining your future so don’t stress out about it like many on this forum. I made the same mistake stressing about that one Comp question but now My stress is alleviated. The secret to succeeding in AP is hard work, determination, and enjoying learning the material itself. It seems to me that you did all these things by taking this course.
@dogluvaaa Some teachers just don’t know what they’re talking about. My first WHAP teacher graded us way too easily on our essays, and taught us how do write them incorrectly. Plus he tested us over the most pedantic stuff instead of overarching themes like what’s on the AP test. Worst of all he put his coaching job over his teaching job, frequently missing class, letting us fall way behind, and ultimately abandoning us for a head coaching job at another school in mid-March. We celebrated when he left. Fortunately, he got replaced with my old Human teacher, who taught WHAP before him and had been to several readings in the past. She basically told us to forget everything we know about essays and taught us all over again from scratch, and on top of that she taught us periods 5 and 6 and reviewed everything else in a much more helpful way. We were in shock about how much we were mislead. It was an eye-opening experience to say the least. I ended up with a 5.
@cardinal2020mom Students who think that it is impossible that they did not get a 5.
In the vast majority of cases, there will be no change, so it’s just a waste of money for most people. The downside is, if the score does change, it could just as easily e rescored down as up.
I agree with @skieurope . To me, the college board seems like they are very willing to exploit anxious students for more money. The probability of the score changing must be ridiculously low.
haha I don’t remember particularly addressing economics at all but I still got a 5! I was so worried because I thought my class didn’t prepare me enough but it turned out to be fine and the Barron’s book helped a lot for review.
Felt kind of bad about the test; guessed on a lot of MC questions blindly and blew off the classwork and content review. I also didn’t start preparing for it until a week before the test day.
Got a 4…
Eh, not so great but not horrible either. I wish I could’ve gotten a 5…if only I finished those MC questions completely. The essays are the only reason I got a 4 in my opinion.
@dogluvaaa I am in the same situation as you. received my scores from the World History AP test today and was completely blindsided with my score of a 3. I have averaged a 96-97 in this class the entire year which ranks in the top 1% of students who took the class (at a very high caliber school). Additionally, I have taken 2 practice exams and scored 5s on both which I believe was graded accurately as for my teacher has been a AP reader in previous years. Also, I felt very confident coming out of my AP exam thinking I scored much higher than the score I received today. I thought MC was easy and that I would easily get 80% correct and I thought my FRQs had great information and I was cautious due to the specificity of the prompts. What should I do?
@HeyDinero I will be sending mine in for a rescore and will order my FRQ booklet. I’m hoping there’s a mistake because getting a 3 honestly is hard to do when you put so much work in! But collegeboard rarely makes mistakes so I’m worried
@dogluvaaa thank you so much for your advice. I will be doing the same. I honestly believe there is no way I scored a 3 considering the reputation I built up last year and the confidence (that is usually always justified) I had coming out of the test. Even though there is a slim chance there was a mistake I believe my test score was truly inaccurate.
Man, everyone beat me in my school class. I got lower scores than half the class on mock exams, and I never passed a single quiz. I struggled on notes and had to resort to copying them instead of doing them legit. I usually got C’s on tests. My parents even told me to ask some of the high-scoring kids how they did it.
Then AP Exam came, and I remember filling the whole essay portion with bs, and struggling on the MC. Almost everyone in my class got 3, and I got a 5. I beat everyone I asked for help, and I didn’t change my study habit at all.
I am fairly pleased with myself considering I’m a freshman and this was my first AP test I had ever taken before. I bought a review book to help study for the exam but I didn’t really end up using it so much to study as the exam was approaching. I felt that just plain reading the textbook worked best for me, so I attempted to read my whole textbook over again in like one week (which is basically impossible btw). There were many sections in the book that I was rusty on our didn’t go over period, so it was kind of pure luck that the essays were on familiar topics and the exam was more Eurocentric.
Anyways, congrats to those who have gotten their scores already and good luck to those who are still waiting!
@allyelisev I’m in the same boat as you. This was my first AP, as a freshman, and I got a 4. I was hoping for a 5, but a four is still a great score! I’m sure we’ll both get many more 5’s in the next few years
I just went on the CB website to the AP world history page and in the “about the exam” section it says that the exam has short answers and 2 essay questions…is the format for 2017 really changing?
I got a 5. I was expecting a 4 because i was really nervous/sleep deprived on test day and did not see the word “economics” on the CCOT or “CAUSES” on the comparative. I just wrote about all aspects of the topics as a result so I figured I would only get 2-3 points on each of those essays. I had very high scores on all the practice MC tests I took, and aced the DBQ which is what probably carried my score. Congratulations to everyone!
I am anxious to see my grade, and can wait until our states release time at 8am tomorrow. I’m pretty hopeful considering I studied a month in advance with the Princeton review book, and took about 8 practice tests in total (most just the MC). I got a 4 and 5 on the two in class ones, and a 98 on the NYS regents (which really doesn’t matter). I’ve seen it go down for people pushing to know avast intelligence in study, and high for people who barely picked up a book beforehand. I guess ill have to fill everyone in when I wake up later this morning lol! Good luck to all others waiting!
I got a 5 on the test, which is a complete shock to me!! I’m certain I did well on the mc and dbq essay, but I felt like I didn’t do as well on the other two essays. Is there a way to see our scores on the individual parts of the test?
