Hello all!

There's an APAP "Interview Days" event tomorrow at my city. Can anyone kind of explain what it is?

Thank you!

I had one today actually. You’ll talk to an alum for 20-25 minutes about whatever you want.

It’s just a chance for you to sit down with an alum (and your parents with current student parents if they choose to join you) and ask questions you might have. Get to know more about washu. That kind of thing.

It’s really relaxed and not meant to stress you out - I interviewed 5 kids today, and they were all wonderful. It can really only help your application, not hurt.

Thank you! Do I have to come at the exact time they have listed, or can I come anytime in the time period. For example, my time period is 1-4; Can i come any time between?

Also, do i have to register (I am a prospective)?

At my city’s event people had times scheduled by the half hour (so like, 2:30, for example).

Not sure how the director is running it in your town, but I’d suggest just showing up at 1pm. You probably won’t stay longer than 2pm, but the later you go, the more likely there is to be a delay (because alums won’t want to cut an interview short if we’re having a great conversation with someone).

Also not sure on what you mean by register. When you get there, just ask and they should let you know what their procedure is. We had a handful of walk-ins, and just took their name and all was well.

Oh alright, that’s great! By “register,” I meant as in do we have to say in advance we are coming?

I don’t think so, but it’s probably too late to register if you had to anyway. I wouldn’t worry about it- I doubt they’d turn you away.

Hey, I had another question. Is it an actual interview, like will it count for a college interview? So, do I have to prepare couple questions and should I know a lot about the school?

It’s an actual interview, yes, but don’t worry about knowing a lot about the school. Not knowing will actually make questions easier.

A lot of what I was asked yesterday were things like “so what are the students like; how’s the advising system; do a lot of students study abroad; what is greek life’s impact on campus”? and etc etc.

Chances are your interviewer will be a very young alum like me - they’ve been on campus the most recently, and can speak the most honestly to campus life & experiences. As I said, it can only help your application, not hurt - your interviewer is supposed to serve as an advocate for you to the admissions office. It should really be called an informal chat rather than an interview :)

That’s really cool! Unfortunately, I just found out that I won’t be able to attend.

So, does Wash U offer other interviews?

Are there also any other ways to show interest besides oncampus interview/ tour since I most likely won’t be able to do that either…?
