Apartment with BF in College?

I’m moving into an apartment with my boyfriend, he also has a 3 year old, and we’ll both be in college this fall. We will both be freshman. What all will we need? We are starting with no furniture or anything except a tv and we both have laptops. A list of furniture, cleaning supplies, appliances, college supplies, etc. would be nice.

This depends on a number of things. How big is the apartment and what’s the layout? What’s your budget? Is there a washer/dryer for your building? Is the 3 year old going to be living there primarily? Since you’re just starting college and you guys have a child to support, I’m guessing that money will be tight. Don’t be too concerned with getting luxury items such as multiple couches, fancy appliances, etc. That said, a child will require some upgrades from typical college apartments such as adequate cooking supplies for healthy meals, a particularly clean environment, and “baby-proofing” materials among other thing. With more information people can give better advice.

well we haven’t moved out yet so I cant give you size or layout… and I really want to find a place with a washer dryer in the buiding. Braedyn is there Thursday-sunday. I’m not worried about luxury stuff but I don’t wanna have milk crates as a couch. And i’m kinda a healthy person over all so healthy food is a must. But he’s older so I don’t need to “baby-proof” most things.

You do still need to be careful with 3 year olds. Outlets, stairs, dangerous appliances, etc. are still problems for children, especially those who aren’t even in kindergarten yet.

Some apartments, especially those for college students, already have appliances in them (and in some cases even furniture). Wait until you’ve seen the apartment and know what it has before you purchase those things. You don’t want to buy a queen sized bed and then discover that it’s too big. Or buy a refrigerator and then discover that there’s already one in the apartment. If you can, visit it before you move in and give yourself some time to set it up before the child lives there for full weekends. This thread gives a list of things you should bring to college, however it’s mostly aimed towards students living in dorms.
