APCS vs APES for Sociology Major?

I am taking either AP Comp Sci 1 or AP Env Science next year. 2 questions:

  1. I have 2 years of science, whereas 3 is recommended by most schools. I am majoring in social sciences but still want 3 years. Do colleges accept CompSci as science credit?
  2. More importantly, which would fit better with a sociology/economics major?

APCS is not a science credit, it’s math.

APES because it deals a lot with the movement and interaction of humans and the environment. It’s also easier (if that’s something you’re looking for).

AP CS is usually seen as either math or academic elective. Nevertheless, a well taught AP CS principles course may be helpful to students going into any college major (AP CS A is more for those who want to be CS majors).

In terms of science, it is best to have all three of biology, chemistry, and physics in high school; you can add an advanced course like AP environmental science beyond that.

There’s no AP Computer Science 1. Are you looking at a computer Science Principles or Computer Science A? They are very different.

But neither is a science. Bio/Chem/Physics is preferred. ES is an “elective” science, but it would be better to have it than only two sciences.

Agreed.

Yea, sorry, I meant Comp Sci A.

Definitely do APES. As others have said, APCS is not considered a science credit.
I took APES in HS and it was ridiculously easy and also fun. I’m much more interested in liberal arts instead of STEM and it was a great class and exam to take. The only downside is that my community college (which I transferred to after attending a university) doesn’t accept my exam score as credit so I have to take another science for my degree. Double-check transferability, but an APES credit will most likely be accepted by a 4-year school.
