APFTs during Beast

I pulled an ab muscle during basketball this year, and it's just now starting to heal. The doctor told me to wait six weeks to do anything; six weeks will be over on May 11, which leaves me about six more weeks to prepare for the APFT at the beginning of Beast. I'm extremely confident that I can pass, but I don't know if i'll be able to max the test. My question is, how important are the two APFTs during beast, and if the worst were to happened and I didn't pass, would they separate me from the academy? Thanks for any answers you can give me.

GO ARMY!

Let Dodmerb Know!

If you fail the Beast APFTs, your cadre will hate you, and you'll get made fun of. That's about it. There were people last summer that could seriously not do a single push up. Now failing during the academic year is different, but during Beast, they understand you are all new and need time to adjust.

no. don't let dodmerb know. you'll just open up a pandora's box. i know someone who put down that they get motion sickness if they try to read in a car. think if it might be a real problem.

example:
amputated leg: might be appropriate to alert dodmerb

two stitches on leg: rethink

also- they apft is really really easy to pass.... don't worry about it. if you dont, they put you on a remedial pt plan.

"pulled ab muscle..." not something you need to let dodmerb know about. It's not a diagnosed medical condition, or real injury. It's just something your doctor coined while talking to you. Unless you tore a muscle or seriously sprained/strained/broke stuff don't worry about it.

My bad. I don't think I actually read what he was saying or something. I must have thought it said "tore" or something. I don't know. Yeah, like everyone else said, don't worry about letting DoDMERB know, it's a minor thing.

also keep in mind muscle memory. As long as you've been pretty physically active in your life, it's easy to get back in shape quick. I went 2 months without any real pt due to our training schedule then took an apft after 2 weeks of pt and scored about the same as I did before the break. Dont use your energy on being stressed out about this. Think more about things like lack of girls, all your friends having fun in the sun, drive-ins, bbq's... things like that :)

Haha, thanks everyone especially mrgreenapple...i'm tryin' not to worry too much, but it's tough ya know? I scored almost perfect on the CFA so i think i'll be ok...anyways, thanks a lot.

One other thing, don't assume the APFT is easy to pass.

A: taking at West Point, especially the first time, you will probably still be sore from the previous day's exertions.

B: Your first APFT may not go as planned. Expect to have a number of your pushups/situps not count until you get used to doing the proper form.
