I have submitted my gates millenium scholarshi (Finally!)
but now, do I have to submit ANOTHER for relationg to my race?

For instance, the APIASF application is due on the 14th.
Does this mean I have to create an account there and submit another for to be eligible for this scholarship?

I freaking out.
Do I need to finish the APISF Scholarship to be considered for the GATES Millenium Scholarship?

Does APIASF have another scholarship program?
APIASF also manages the Gates Millennium Scholars/Asian Pacific Islander Americans (GMS/APIA) program. Funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and administered by UNCF, the GMS/APIA program provides outstanding Pell Grant eligible APIA students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline they choose and a graduate degree in specific fields. For more information on the Gates Millennium Scholars program, please click here. All information regarding the eligibility criteria and how to obtain an application can be found there. Remember you must complete BOTH applications in order to be considered for the APIASF and GMS Scholarships.

So I HAVE to finish this application too to become eligible?

No. I never applied for APIASF (or at least, after registering I never finished filling out the forms). APIASF just runs the Asian part of GMS once you get accepted and everything. I think they are saying that in order to have chances for both APIASF scholarships and GMS, you need to fill out two applications, not just one or the other. But I am pretty sure there’s not a specific rule that says you have to fill out APIASF in order to get Gates; if you are still worried contact/call APIASF tomorrow.

Thankyou for the response. Im just dreading the fac that I may have to bother my counselour again and wirte essays in a short period of time.

Did anyone hear anything from APIASF? Have they sent any notification? I am not sure how this scholarship works.

I received a “Scholarship Update” email from APIASF yesterday (March 9) saying:

"Thank you for submitting an application for the APIASF Scholarship Program. We are currently in the process of reviewing all of the completed applications and will be notifying students toward the end of April regarding the selection of our Finalists.
Students selected as Finalists will be required to submit the following documentation to the APIASF office: …

blah blah blah

Please note that there is NOT any additional information that needs to be submitted at this time. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact our office…"

So it looks like they’ll be notifying us a lil bit later? I’m not sure how this works either.

Basically what happens is that when GMS notifications come out, APIASF specifically will send your (hopefully acceptance) notification. Similarly, HSF will send notifications to Hispanic applicants, etc.
Around late April I think? If I remember correctly.

Anyone receive anything?

Heard back today! Anyone else?

^ did you receive anything in the mail? i was reading on past years’ threads and many reported so D:

I received a finalist EMAIL too. Nothing in the mail though.

They are asking for documents for finalist. Does that means that we will be selected for any of their scholarships? How does this relates to Gates? Will we be automatically considered for Gates once we submit the final documents?

i wouldn’t say “will” (“…will be selected for any of their scholarships…”) as that denotes certainty… we only advanced to the next round. we MAY be selected for any of their scholarships.

if you’re talking about the gates millennium, i’m pretty sure we can’t be considered for that anymore lol
