Did anyone get selected for the second phase?
I received my letter today and will mail out the requirements today or tomorrow. :)

yes!!! i got the letter today! yay it made me happy....i came home from the mall so depressed from an unsuccessful prom dress shopping spree =(

wow. i seriously didn't think i would even be considered but kewl!

UbiquityEssence, congratulations! I didn't think I'd be considered either since I didn't get selected for Gates Millennium. But I got selected for APIASF, better than nothing!
I was kinda depressed too and seeing the letter made me happy, hehe. :D Good luck shopping for your Prom dress. :) Hey, maybe you can start a thread in "High School Life" about where to find Prom dresses and what criteria you look for (ie size, sophistication, simple, colors, etc.) :D

lol. congrats to you too! when one door closes and other one opens!!

how many do you think APIAS selected to advance to the second round? and how many round sare there?

UbiquityEssence:
I am not sure how many students are selected to the second round. I read the threads from previous years, but haven't learned much. But I know that the scholarship is for $2,000 and there is a final round after the second one.

ya i read in previous threads for '05 ....6000 ppl applied, 450 finalists, and 150 awardees

umm..my transcripts is going to fit in that little envelope

UbiquityEssence,
My official transcript was in an envelope already, so I had to fold the sides of that envelope to fit in the APIASF envelope. Haha... :D and had to add another First Class stamp, just in case...
P.S.: Are we the only ones on CC that got selected to the second phase for APIASF? It's kinda odd, don't you think? ;) Haha

lol ya. the other asians were prolly too lazy or competitive to report it. my transcripts still haven't come in yet! i ordered them on monday....right after i got my letter on friday. soooo i might be out of the competition if my transcripts don't come in. =(

sigh i've been visiting guidance everyday....

well if they do come in i'll just put them in a big yellow envelope and send it off. cuz the transcript is bulky! i can't fold it and stuff it in that thin little envelope.

i expressed mail my transcripts yesterday and i received an email today saying my app. is complete. yay. now to sit and wait.

count me in too :o

kewl congrats! welcome!!

i'm confused- isn't APIASF part of GMS?
very odd.. I think it is.
so if you get the scholarship you're still a GMS winner.

also- no one has been notified yet?

the other GMS scholars (that are part of the hispanic/negro fund) were notified already...

just read the GMS site again:

APIASF is also the administrator of the Gates Millennium Scholars/APIA, which provides outstanding low-income Asian and Pacific Islander American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline they choose.

OMG
OMG
OMG

I got my letter !
I'm a scholar!

i think APIASF and GMS are two different scholarships even if they're managed by APIASF. for APIASF, second round finalists are suppose to submit transcripts by this friday and they receive notification by May.

but congrats to you guys for GMS!!!!!!

oh oops.. then i posted in the wrong thread.

sorry.

UbiquityEssence:
Haha........May is coming up! I wonder if we're going to get selected as finalists ><
It's funny how we're like the only two people posting on this thread...
