Hello, I sent my app in already, but I still have to send in my recs. Do you think I should send in one or two? Also, is it ok if I got them from teachers not from 11th or 12th?
Another Q on the essay.. about how long do you recommend? Thanks.

My D sent in 2 recs; one from a 10th grade teacher and one from a 12th grade teacher. She used those two because she really liked them and new they would give her good recs. I think that would also give the committee a broader look of her through her high school career. As for her essay, I think hers was only 500-600 words, since they have to read so many of them. She just wrote about a subject that not too many people would discuss. Hope this helps. Good luck in your college search.

My kid sent in 2 essays -- 1 from a current teacher, and 1 from a friend's Dad who has known my kid for 10+ years. A Pitt Admissions counselor wrote the Dad a note, telling him that they really appreciated getting a reference that was so heartfelt. I don't know if that's something that they do often, but it sure made the Dad (and my kid) feel good -- and my kid got admitted within a few days. Lots of jumping up & down. Based on our experience, I think it's just important to get a reference from someone who really believes in you, or who can tell them something new that adds to your application.
