About boots, I don't know anyone who did not own a pair of boots, at least rain boots. Some of the hills can get really slippery and boots are the only way to get up. Also, on those days where the wind chill is like -25 degrees and there is snow on the ground, I really don't think anyone is wearing flip flops. If you get Uggs, make sure to waterproof them.

My D doesn't like the cold. I am probably over doing it. If you see a freshman girl over dressed next winter, please just say hi and don't make fun of her.

I don't think boots are actually necessary for guys at least; sneakers or tennis shoes or whatever are just fine except for the 1 or 2 days/year that they haven't cleared out the snow when you're walking to class. Also most of the other "winter" wear isnt that necessary either; I just wear sweats layered with my regular clothes (I'd wear maybe like 3 layers: t-shirt, sweatshirt/hoodie, then jacket on the coldest days). Then again, when it's that cold out, I don't really care how I look as long as I stay warm...

can anyone show a picture of the type of boots ppl wear? I'm from california... so basically, the only boots i've ever seen are ski boots, uggs, and rainboots (just to be cute) =]

most girls wear Uggs or boots that look like Uggs from some other company. Rain boots are also very popular. Both guys and girls also wear timberlands.

girls please dont continue the ugg tradition (unless they are the real heavy duty ugg ones) i'm tired of seeing girls slipping on ice and getting their uggs all messy b/c they insist on fashion

that picture from ktoto looks like something worth wearing...for those financially weary look up landsend.com

O.K., about this boot thing, are we talking ankle high leather hiking shoes or calf high rubber boots that go over your sneakers? How good is Cornell about getting the campus pathways cleared of snow. For instance, if it were to start snowing at, say, 1:00 am and continue steadily until 7:30 am, would I be walking through 2 feet of snow on my way to an 8:00 am class or would the pathways be cleared quickly by motorized equipment? Does the campus ever get 2 feet of snow? I am from sunny California, so I am just kind of imagining that this might happen.

They are pretty good about clearing the snow out of paths (the main ones at least.. not all of the little shortcut paths necessarily). I usually wouldn't know about 8AM =P but I think it would be cleared by then.

49mercurcy. I assume you're a freshman. All the main paths will be cleared on north campus towards central. Like hpmbs said, only the small paths are the ones to worry about. You'll be fine. And about boots we're talking about boots that are like timberlands.

Cornellstudent09. Thanks for the info. I am a transfer and hopefully will be living in one of the west campus meal plan houses. Sorry, I dont know what timberlands are.

MArian,
I live in DC are and have a Soph at Cornell. Try REI for boots they tend to get their winter stock in before school starts and definitely will have them by Fall Break. Another tip for you is the Cornell-Bethesda Bus.,,its a bargain and will get you daughter home safely over breaks and you can ALWAYS sell your seat if she decides not to come home. Welcome to Cornell family.
