Are you NMF?
Good attitude OP. You’ll do fine. Purdue is a great school.
I just found this thread today, OP. There must be much more to the story with your parents, I can’t even imagine waiting this long to have the money talk. You sounds motivated and determined and I am sure you will do well. Congrats on your acceptances! You have an excellent option in Purdue and I hope the suggestion about the Honors Program works out (icing on the cake).
That sounds like a good compromise, OP. I think work-study is tied into need for a lot of schools, but you could get a job nonetheless. If so, I’d go with Purdue!
If that doesn’t work out, your stats at University of Alabama Huntsville would qualify you for an automatic four year scholarship that covers tuition and room, and they’re still taking applications. You’d be on the hook for board, books, fees, travel, and miscellaneous expenses, but it’s still a great deal.
This kid is an NMF. Apply now to Alabama…not too late for NMFs…will get the huge merit.
This thread should be a wake up call for younger students whose parents tell them not to worry about costs.
I just saw this thread this early morning and am shocked that parents would even consider having their kid borrow that much for any school.

Alright, just talked to my parents. They’re willing to do up to 10K/year for Purdue, leaving a 2.5K gap after the Stafford loan which I can probably make up through work-study. It’s not what I wanted, but I’ll take it at this point. Thanks for your help, everyone

Thank goodness! Glad that they’re not being stubborn and insisting on MIT.
You can’t get work study since you won’t qualify. Your EFC is too high, but you can work/save over summers and work part time during school year.
I would recommend working/saving as much as you can during the school year so that any work needed during the school year could be minimal.
I think @mom2collegekids means working during your high school year (and summers) so your college year work can be minimal.
Oops…I meant…working/saving as much as you can during summers, so that…
Look into the honors college right now: the application system has been known to overload and shut down during the last hours you can submit, and no matter what happened, they will not accept a late application. So complete the application today as it’s a good solution for you, there’ll only be top students in that group and ou’ll have access to high level classes.
Boiler up OP!
Good engineering students from Purdue get tons of very well paid summer internship and coop opportunities. Top employers literally swarm the campus. You could actually graduate debt free, or close to it, with the right jobs.
