Appeal for more Financial Aid??

From Case’s website…

<<<
As a consequence, aid eligibility and grant assistance is typically less if you choose to live off campus
<<<

And it your aid will be further reduced if you commute from home.

That grant you received was largely to go towards campus room and board.

You also need to submit this form to get permission to commute from home.

I’m not even sure if commuting is available to freshmen. The above link is for sophomores.

Did you ask your parents how much they’ll pay each year???

@mom2collegekids When I applied, I selected on-campus. On my package it said that all first year students are assumed to be living on campus. I looked on their website and I could not find any information that indicated whether or not commuting would affect the grant so I am unsure of choosing to commute will affect anything

@mom2collegekids Ah i reread your post and I understand what you are saying… so if commuting will affect my grant, should I just live on campus?

What is your net cost if you live on campus???

And HOW will that net cost get paid??

And how much will your parents pay each year???

@mom2collegekids My net cost will be $21k and will most likely be covered by loans. I am pretty sure I have enough to cover the first year but then at this point, there is only a $2k difference from attending OSU so would it be wiser to attend OSU?

YOU cannot borrow $20k.

You’re doing this wrong. You need to BRING your parents onboard with this. It NOW sounds like they’ll pay NOTHING or little. Is that correct??

For you to borrow $20k per year, YOUR PARENTS would have to cosign those loans…and not only will their income NOT QUALIFY them for those loans, but they likely will REFUSE since THEIR credit score would be hurt by those outstanding loans…and…THEY would be on the hook for those loans if you couldn’t pay them back.

Please bring your parents to this thread.

Ohio native here. There are a BUNCH of good public universities in Ohio. Did you apply to and get accepted at any? In addition to your last resort Akron?

Purdue is a fine school…but given your family situation now, it is NOT affordable. Try to move on.
