Appeal for UCB

im having trouble trying to figure out whether i should appeal for UC Berkeley or not. i've been encouraged by a few friends since it doesn't hurt to try.

I've been accepted to UCSC and UC Irvine but may make a final decision on UCSC based on whether the appeal would work.

My main problem and reason i am appealing is due to financial problems at home that may result in the chance of not getting a 4-year university education even though i have been accepted to the ones mentioned above.

Please help me out. the deadline for UC Berkeley appeal is on the 15th. I'm always wonder what is exactly used in the appeal packet i send out. im confused on the number of letter of recs im allowed to send.

There’s no hard rule for what you can send; you have to use common sense.

But I’m not sure I understand why you’re appealing. If you’re having financial troubles, how will getting accepted to a more expensive school solve them? And money problems may suck and all, but how do they indicate to a school that they should really have accepted you?

I don’t think UCB would be more expensive. The student lives in SF area. I’m guessing that either the student could commute or at least won’t have to spend as much for trips home and such.

Sue Wilbur, Director of Admissions for the University of California (UC) system, offered a UC update in recent meeting.

In the past, denied students have appealed UC admission decisions and occasionally been admitted on appeal. Because of the new wait-list system, very few appeals will be granted, and they will only be granted if there is TRULY new and compelling information, in cases of extreme hardship, or if an error was made by the UC. Students may not appeal to earn a spot on a wait list.

Not sure if this wil help but if it is a true hardship you might try.

it would be easier for me to live at home while attending UCB as compared to UCSC. based on today’s economy, my family has been really struggling and even tho my parents make “a lot” (depending on how people look at it) they have mentioned to me that i should consider the community college then transfer idea.

i feel that i can probably give a good reason on the appeal but i do not believe its very good as compared to what i have seen other people mention in other threads.
