Appealing Decision

So I received an email from the university saying that I was accepted and then nothing ever arrived in the mail... When I called they said I was rejected. I want to know if you can appeal the decision and if you can, what are GWU's procedures? I heard people appeal before with GWU.

I personally think it is strange that you got an e-mail from GW saying you were accepted. I thought most, if not all, decisions were given out on their portal login.

Seeing as they don’t even accept a healthy percentage of the waitlist, I’m not sure how effective an appeal would be.

You could write them a letter detailing how much you want to go to the school, that they are your number one and provide any information that they didn’t receive.

If there is no new information, no new grades, no new tests scores and/or nothing substantial… I hate to say you may just get another rejection. But if it is your number one choice, it is always worth the attempt, right?

Good luck though!

Thanks! A professor actually emailed me and said I received a scholarship as well! It was so strange of them, and they all say different things. Some admissions people say I got in and some say i’m not accepted. I wrote to the professor about my acceptance (according to him) and now i am waiting for a response.

It seems extremely unorthodox of the admissions and professor to be e-mailing you about acceptances and scholarships.

What does it say when you login to your gwapplication portal?

Why would that help?

Also, try talking to a non-student at the admissions office. It always seems the students can’t really help you :P

My portal says International Affairs has been rejected, but as far as I knew, I applied to the Fine Arts as well. I was rejected for IA but apparently accepted for Fine Arts. One Admissions Officer told me if I was emailed by a professor than I am in, but not according to the lady I talked to today.

International Affairs was my first major and Art was my second. French was my third choice on the common app.

The portal shouldn’t say anything about your major (at least, mine and many other didn’t)…

Well Since they emailed me and congratulated me about my acceptance “as a Fine Arts major” I believe I got rejected for International Affairs…

What does the portal say though? I’m curious about this “email”, as I haven’t heard of a single other student receiving one. Did you have previous contact with this professor?

Getting an email notification from a college is very suspicious. Could you tell us the email address it came from?

Yes, I did meet the professor before and it was their email that was sent to my email.
