Just wondering everyone’s opinions:
Would going from a 3.86 W to a 4.03 W be enough to appeal merit aid? I got 5 A’s (4 DE and 1 Honors)
Merit aid is hard to “appeal” unless it’s automatic and based entirely on stats. Usually it’s offered as an incentive to recruit high achieving students that might otherwise be full-pay.
In most cases, it is what it is. It can’t hurt to let them know about your increased GPA and ask if they might consider increasing the merit they offered to make the school more affordable for your family.
Hint: NEVER use the word “appeal” when trying to get a school to increase to merit or financial aid.
“Reconsideration” or “reassessment” yes; “appeal” not so much.
Contact the college. YMMV.
What merit did you get? What were your ACT/SAT scores?
Are you sure that it increased that much based on just ONE semester? Is that the school’s calculation or yours?
@mom2collegekids The schools - it is located on our powerschool portal so yes I am positive. I was given a 15,000 merit scholarship but the net price calculator showed higher. My ACT superscored is a 30 with a 29 composite not superscored. I am in no way full pay. My EFC is somewhere around the 1500 range.
At the very least call and ask. My daughter’s school had different levels of merit aid, based on scores, gpa, and class rank. NPC said she should get the middle level but she was awarded the lower level. I discovered they were using the wrong ACT score. Once that was fixed she went to the next level. Not really an appeal, just a fixing of the information.
Since you superscored your ACT score, make sure the school is too.
