Appealing Transfer Admission

I just got my rejection e-mail from csu pomona. I was so upset. Although I do not really know their reason for rejection, I believe that it is because I stated that I will not be fulfilling the GE requirements. However, I will actually be taking classes that will fulfill the GE requirements. I changed my mind after I submitted the application. Also, I noted that on their rejection e-mail they categorized me as a Non-resident while I am actually a california resident. This also might have had an impact on the decision. As for right now, this is my stat:

GPA: 4.0
GE Requirements: Will be done at the end of spring
CCC: Pasadena City College and California resident
Units: 90 semester units by the end of spring semester.

Does any of you know whether or not I can appeal this decision? Do you think I still have a chance? Should I re-apply for summer quarter? Your opinions will be much appreciated.

Call the school and inform them of the miscommunication.

definately. don't let this just slip away, your stats are great!!! and i'm sure you worked hard for them so go!!!

You should definately give them a call. Do you know why they classified you as a non-resident? Also, you should be prepared with a good reason for why you didn't inform them that that you would be fulfilling GE requirements when you changed your classes. Seems like that's a vital part of your transfer application, and a change that they should have known about when initally assessing your case.

who cares? csup sucks anyways. You'll get into better schools ;)

Call them ASAP; you have excellent scores, and there was, indeed, a miscommunication, whether it was on your part of theirs, it's something that needs to be clarified.

Have a set argument/response. Don't ask "Can I appeal my rejection?" Start off with something like, "Hi, I'm a transfer applicant for __ major for Fall 08, I have a 4.0 GPA for 90 credits and I believe there is a mistake with __. The letter states that I am not a Californian resident even though I am and it also said that I did not complete GE reqs when, indeed, I am in the process of doing so. Consequently, I received a rejection letter because of this miscommunication."

or something along those lines. Best of luck, it seems as if you worked really hard for those grades.

By the way, it could be because you have so many credits as well, I think NYU doesn't allow you to transfer if you have above 90, or so I recall.

I really dont know why I am classified as a non-resident. WHen I called them this one lady told me that it must have been because I stated so. HOwever, when I went to the CSUMentor. I stated that I have been residence since 2001. Another lady told me that the residency does not have anything to do with my admission....

It might be because of that too because I was counting my units for UCB my App and realize that I will have 90 Units. I believe I clicked the option that I will have over 60 but less than 90. HOwever, they also have the choice for being over 90 units. SO i think this should not affect me.

I will try calling them again today but I feel like the GE Requirements fulfillment is my fault. Is it okay to still say that it is a miscommunication?

It could be the requirement fulfillment. That's what gets people applying to UC's with good Gpa's too, apparently.

You might also post this on the UC transfer sub-forum. More likely that folks there have specific similar experiences to share.

I called the admission rep. She was sooo friendly and told me what to do. When she looked up my application, she told me that they have mistaken my residency status. She told me to send my transcript with the in-progress classes and also a copy of my green car. She also said that I should be able to get accepted provisionally.

Wow, best case scenario. Good job and hope you have fun in your new school, AdamantineX.

Nice update, Adamantine. Hope it all works out.
