appeals for rutgers pharmacy?

hey i just got denied admission to rutgers pharmacy and i was wondering if i could appeal my decision. i just foudn out today and i was pretty much speechless. a few ppl in my school got in around the same grades and a couple times had even lower stats and still managed to get in somehow a couple of months ago.

Im an asian male from NJ (instate obviously) with a 3.952/5.4 with ranking inside the top 25%. i got 2090 on my sats 760M 630V 700W and 740 on 2C and 750 on US history. i got 212 on my PSAT so i got commended or w/e. i've taken a 18/20 honors/AP courses in my high school and our high school is really competitive. this year we sent about 8 kid to ivies out of a class of 286. you could probably find threads of me last year posting about my chances in the chances column so im not gonna overdo anything. im really confused and at the same time extremely disappointed. everyone including my guidance counselor said i was a solid candidate when i applied back in september. its been a long 5 months but today i finally got rejected. i dont want to sound arrogant but i honestly thought i was going to get in.

based on my situation and knowledge of rutgers pharm, do you guys think that i could have a shot at an appeal if they have an appeals process? PLEASE do not hesitate to post your opinions and DONT be afraid to be brutally honest! any help would be greatly appreciated thanks so much!!

Did you get into anything programs at Rutgers? I applied and they rejected me after like 4 months of waiting (not pharmacy program). So I applied to 3 other schools and got accepted to all of them. I'm most likely going to West Virginia. If I were you, I'd probably just accept the fact I didn't get in though and go somewhere else.

i got into the college of arts and sciences and school of business. but pharmacy was my first choice overall in everything so im still bummed.

You might want to ask the GC to follow up. Sometimes a call to a contact in admissions can yield some information that they might not let you know.

what the hell..same thing happened to me

rutgers pharmacy system is seriously messed up. i got my results back last saturday and i was pretty disappointed, considering people with lower stats than me got in...and they sent their applications in later.

what can we do? is appealing a possibility?

It is very doubtful that you will be able to successfully appeal the decision. Each year only a certain number of students are admitted to the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, and after the positions have been filled, no one can get in to the program unless someone else had dropped out first. Unfortunately, February 28, the date of notification for the Pharmacy program, has already passed, so new admissions to the school are closed. You may want to try to get into one of the 2+4 programs at Camden or Newark, rather than try to appeal the New Brunswick decision. After two years you are automatically enrolled in the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy so long as you have maintained proper grade levels and have completed all necessary requirements.

dude the thing is i like dont get it. ppl with lower grades than me in every possible area got in... and i applied in september!!!! ***!! do you think that rutgers somehow lost my app and just decided to reject me? i've also noticed that the only ppl that got in were girls from my school so weird lol. im hoping i can somehow appeal =/

I don't think an appeal could hurt. Make it clear that this is your first choice and you are prepared to come. If nothing else, you could ask what weakness they saw in your application, but be prepared because most state schools give formulaic answers.

wowwww i requested that an admissions counselor go over my app with me and they basically said that like the average sat was 1450 and mine was 1390 and my gpa was a bit low =/ after 5 months of waiting all i do is get rejected damnnnn. but i think im gonna relase a conspiracy theory about rutgers pharm it may sound dumb but i just noticed that the only ppl who got into rutgers pharm from my school were girls who managed to beat out guys that had higher stats and applied later...hmm!!!

Rutgers pharmacy is very SAT-oriented. I had a pretty weak GPA (only top 20%), but I got a 1530 (2230) on SAT's and 790/730 in Math/Chem.

GPA was 3.7 weighted with something like 8 APs (4 sciences), and the rest honors.

also would like to note that i know of 4 people that got accepted in my school; 2 girls, 2 boys (including me). All of us had SAT's above 2200

I'm sorry to hear that your application was rejected. Currently, I'm a 4th year student at Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy. I just want to let you know that this is nothing to be discouraged about. If you didn't get in, it just wasn't meant to be. Don't let such thing put you down.

When I applied to Rutgers Pharmacy 5 years ago, similar thing happened to me. A friend of mine with an inferior GPA and SAT score (with less extra-curricular activities) got accepted within two weeks of applying. I, on the other hand, did not receive any notice for approximately 4 months. In the end, they said I was wait-listed. I was frustrated just like you. Fortunately, there were openings and I was allowed in.

I'm not surprised that a lot of the girls you know got accepted. Females pharmacists are well favored over males. I believe the ratio is somewhere around 7:3.

But, honestly, and I'm sure you've heard this at one point or another, do not study pharmacy unless you REALLY want to be involved in this field. It is extremely competitive and the amount of time that you must invest even for a mere quiz is unimaginable. It only gets worse as the years go by.

If you don't have much interest in health care and wanted to study pharmacy 'just for the money', you'll have difficult time staying in the program. Remember, think about whether you think you can be a pharmacist for the rest of your life. This isn't like going to a GAP store and trying on every clothes you like. It's more like you're stuck with one clothes forever. Think about that. Of course, retail isn't the only option as a pharmacist. There are countless job opportunities available for Pharm.D's. But, in the end, they all require you to have a love for health care.

A lot of my friends from high school entered EMSOP with me in '04. Every one of them that applied aiming for the high salary is no longer with us. I'm speaking from my own experience. Please consider this carefully.

I'm not sure if it's too late, but if you still want to study pharmacy at Rutgers, I suggest finding more information about the 2+4 program offered at Camden like Crash2014 said.

Good luck and best wishes for you and your future.

im currently a first-year student. i dont think an appeal would do anything because there are people who are on the waitlist right now. if any spot is open, its gonna go to the waitlist. last yr in my high school graduating class, people who had higher stats than me got rejected...

hi i’m really interested in rutgers direct pharmacy program…
my stats or ok i would say, i’m ranked first out of 276. i take lots of ap classes and i’m involved in lots of activites, however my sat’s are low. i got a 1780 so far, i’ll take it again in oct and i’m hoping to get a 1950. are these stats good for me to get in

@krushna09 : Your ranking is perfect. However, your SAT score is way below the average for pharm. Aim for above 2150 at least.
