Appeals polices at these schools?--Please help, few resources at my HS to turn to!!

A friend of mine was rejected from every single school she applied to. As we had a few in common, I'm familiar with the acceptance appeal policy of some of these schools (ie I know Barnard requests no appeals in their rejection letter) but I was wondering if anyone knew if any of these schools have particular policies regarding appeals?
Thanks so much for any help!!

BU
Harvard
Yale
Trinity

For a bit of background, she has an excellent GPA, ok SAT, good EC's, good rec's, and good essays. She's not a US citizen. Sorry that's not very specific, but as it's not my application I don't know more about it.
I'm also going to recommend she apply to a school with rolling admissions, so if anyone knows where I could find a list of those, sending it my way would be fantastic.
If anyone could help me with this, I would be incredibly grateful--our GC's are a bit clueless when it comes to US schools (they're more geared towards the UK) and as a Greek girl with Greek parents, she doesn't know much about this system either.

Also--this is probably ridiculous, but I was wondering...I was waitlisted at BU but I've decided to go to NYU. Is there a way I could give her my spot on the waitlist? We have incredibly similar applications.

Thank you for your “advice.” I wouldn’t consider myself “ridiculous” or an “obnoxious self-entitled teenager” for trying to gather information to help a classmate out, but everyone has their own opinions.
I know appeals rarely work out…I did try googling before I posted this but the keyword “appeal” seems to lead to either financial aid for accepted students or disciplinary issues, so I was hoping someone here had personal experience appealing at those schools.
As an objective outsider to her application process, I can honestly say that she should have gotten into those schools–she was rejected probably because she’s an international student who needs quite a bit of financial aid, not because she wasn’t good enough. But even so, I’m sure there are paths she could take that don’t include just dealing with it and not going to college.

Decisions are usually final. Even if they have made a mistake, spots are already given out. If she is waitlisted at any school, she may try to update them additional information, write a new essay and send in new LORs. If a spot opens up then she maybe offered a spot. But the reality is most WL spots probably will be given to students who do not need FA.

She didn’t even get waitlisted, just flat out rejection everywhere. But thanks for your help! I’d pretty much figured appeals were off the table tbh…this is such a terrible situation for her, and one she definitely doesn’t deserve…I feel awful :’(

OP is correct that her friend probably got rejected by many schools because she needs FA and she is an international. Many colleges do not offer FA to internationals and they are not need blind. For that reason, internationals need to look within their own country first, unless they have excellent stats or are able to pay full fare.

wallrus - not sure why you are so aggressive and obnoxious to OP when she is just trying to be helpful to her friend. This is a tough time for many seniors. I think some sensitivity is called for here.

Thank you, Oldfort! I’ll tell her that my theory about her rejections has officially been backed up…that will at least comfort her a bit!

Well, it is not official because I am not an admission officer, but you could find what I posted on most school’s websites.

They do give aids to internationals, but only to tippy tops. Just look at the numbers, HY give aids to 300-500 international students, out of 6000 students. Most other schools, like Chicago, give aids to 50-150 international students. How many internationals apply?

wallrus - no, those schools DO NOT give much aid to internationals. They are a lot more choosy in giving aid to internationals. It is a known fact.

No, I agree with US News. You are just not interpreting it correctly. She applied to HY and Columbia, those schools are lottery schools for anyone, but even more so for internationals.

What we are saying here is that with her stats, if she wasn’t an international then she probably could have received few acceptances. Trinity may be generous with internationals, but relative to domestic students, maybe not so much.

I think JHU and CM are great options.

Regardless of why she wasn’t accepted, she now faces a difficult position. Does anyone know of any strategies that could help her?
