appeals

Could someone tell me how one goes about appealing a non-existing financial aid package? I really need some financial assistance & none has been offered. Is there any recourse?

Call the financial aid office and explain to them your situation, they will probably ask for your ss number and maybe before they even look up your efc you can tell them what it is (I am assuming it is pretty low since you really need financial assistance). I don't know how much consideration uchicago takes into financial aid appeals, but there is nothing wrong in trying.

juanita -
did your folks do all their paperwork for finaid and get that sent in?

yes, they did but it didn't prove very helpful.

juanita, if you have a relationship with an admissions representative, try speaking with her/him. Sometimes your rep will identify a specific financial aid officer to contact, and/or will talk to financial aid on your behalf. We tried to appeal, and admissions helped me (the mom) get a lot of information about why they found us ineligible, but we were ultimately unsuccessful. My impression is that UChicago is extremely strict and sets a very high bar for financial aid relative to other schools. It can't hurt for you to try, though, you have nothing to lose. Good luck.
