I thought it was really cool how at UCSD it seems like this is a tradition? It's quite respectful; I haven't seen this practice before this quarter. Out of curiosity, did any of your classes' professors NOT receive an applause at the end of lecture this week? If so, which class was it? (You don't need to list their name, just the class subject/number and how often the course met throughout the quarter -- i.e. only once a week, etc.)

Yea i had a math class last year, no one clapped. this year my anthro 23 class no one clapped either, everyone rushed to get out lol. but most of the time people will clap.

For all the classes I’ve taken, students have always clapped for professors who lecture. Professors who were particularly good get longer and more steady applause. We also clapped for lab section TA’s if he/she had an ending statement. However, for seminars students typically just thank the teacher before taking off. I like the tradition, too. Professors deserve to be appreciated for their hard work and time.

LOL really…
out of my four classes, only class had clapping. and only like half the people clapped O-o

i reallylike the clappingtoo! haha
i like when the professors get semi-bashful and everyone cheers and whoops.

all the classes ive taken so far have clapped, even if sometime it was half assed.

People loved my psych professor Anstis so much they clapped for him at the end of the first lecture. No joke.

Well, Stuart is known to be among the most popular professors in the Psych department. He regularly holds get-togethers among all his undergrad students at his house.

^I know he’s amazing. I went to his brunch party last year. Everybody should take a class with him.

I always clap even if the class was horrible. They may not be especially skilled at lecturing, but you can’t deny that they worked hard to show up every day.
