Applicant Portal

I sent in my RD application for AU over a month ago and still haven’t received an email to set up an applicant portal. Every other school that I have applied to has emailed me pretty quickly with the link to set one up, so I’m not sure why I don’t have one for American yet. To other 2020 applicants-- has anyone received an email to set up a portal?? I just want to know if it’s an actual problem before I call them. Thanks!

I didn’t receive an email about the portal either after submitting my application in mid-November which I thought was strange. Every other college sent me a confirmation email, thanking me for applying, etc. along with portal info. Turns out that you can check your application status via the Prospective Student Portal which I had to set up to make a tour reservation in the summer. If you have gone on a tour or interviewed or viewed one of their webinars, you probably have your ID and password for the portal. Still seems strange, though, that they don’t send an email about it after we officially apply. My portal says simply that my application is complete but I can’t see all the components like I can on other college portals (e.g. check for teacher recommendations, SAT scores received, etc.). It also doesn’t show that they received my essays for the honors program. Not sure how to check that.

Thank you @dreambig2018 ! Do you think I can still set up a portal if I never visited?

I think you can. Just go to the Prospective Student Portal link and there is a link to start a new account. A day later, you should get your password but because of the holidays, maybe you won’t get it until Jan. 4th. I hope it works for you!

Thank you!! It’s very confusing the way they set up their website, but I figured out how to get my portal set up. Thanks for your help!

@CDOESenior2k16 @dreambig2018 Hey guys! I also applied to AU for RD but haven’t received any emails or notifications yet. Did anyone get their emails from admission office?

@freshlemon123 I never actually ended up receiving any email from American acknowledging my application. I just checked in the Prospective Student Portal where I had signed up for a tour. Check there (if you previously set up a portal) and you should see your application materials. Good luck!

@freshlemon123 I never got an email either but after posting this I found the link to set up the portal on their website! I never went on a tour so I didn’t have an account from that, you just have to dig around on their website a little (sorry I can’t remember exactly where I found it) and there’s a link that lets you set up your portal!

I set it up. It’s not much and that’s probably the reason they don’t tell you. It’s probably only useful after you’re accepted.

Isn’t it how they notify you of your acceptance/rejection? @tmcl24 seems pretty useful to me

@CDOESenior2k16 As far as I know you get an email and a physical letter too.

Yes but the email is usually generic and just says “your decision is updated on your portal” and then the letter comes days later. At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter, I just like having portals set up for all my schools  @tmcl24

@CDOESenior2k16 is that like a likely letter? Hmm I don’t know why but I got an email from AU yesterday and they gave me ID number for online portal…

@freshlemon123 No not a likely letter. Most schools will send out an email to all of their applicants on the decision day saying “Your application status is updated on your portal” or something like that. Then you go to the portal and you can view your decision- it works that way for all applicants. Then a couple days later they’ll send you a physical acceptance letter I think. They probably just emailed everyone who hasn’t made a portal yet an ID, not a big deal. Good luck
