If your school has a few people applying to Penn (say, under 5), would they be competing against each other as well as everyone else? Does Penn group applicants based on what school they go to?

good question...i'd like to hear an answer too...

Yes and no... if they feel all applicants are strong they might admit all of them.... however, having several students from the same high school applying allows the adcom to compare them and check who has taken the most advantage from the opportunitites the high school provided.

Does being the ONLY one applying from my school ED, and even from the entire city (Im from mty, mexico), will boost my chances?...

Several students will apply RD though, but arent as strong as me...

Does Penn look at which school each applicant is applying to and judge them in that context?

One other kid from my school is applying to Penn ED, except that he's applying to Wharton and I'm applying to the College.
I hope we aren't competing against each other, because he has a higher GPA/rank.

Also, I know Penn doesn't publish ED rates for the 4 separate undergraduate schools, but can anyone estimate the ED acceptance rates for Wharton and the College? I know overall is 29%, although I'm assuming that will drop this year to about 25%.

Early for Wharton is probably about 17%, with 10-12% for regular. I remember reading this somewhere, but I can't remember.

Regarding applicants from same school, it MATTERS! I have read many places that regional admission counselors keep track of how many applicants come from what schools and where... it turns out to be a pretty big deal during decisions.
Read this article, which was posted before, to get a better sense

do wharton and college applicants compete against each other?

or are they regarded as separate colleges, separate admissions standards?

I don't think they compete against each other...

I don't get it, what's the role of regional admissions counselors in admissions? Do they play a part in the process, because I thought the adcoms at Penn made the decisions. Can someone expain, thanks.

All I know is that of last year's graduating class at my school about 11 are at Penn right now. So i don't think they mind taking a lot of kids from one place. I go to a competitive public school btw

Peabody- how many applied?

im pretty sure that if all the applicants from that same school are strong, they'll consider them all.

im not sure exactly how many applied. but probably between 25 and 30. my school sends a lot of kids (40+) to Ivies every year. I know that 3 out of 4 kids from my school who applied to Wharton last yeare were accepted and 2 matriculated

wow that is incredible... 40+ kids to ivies every year? from a public school?
i guess it's different and widely variable in the US... in the portion of Canada where i'm from, i'm the first to go to an ivy for college, even with endless miles of wealthy suburbia in the region. :( i hope that changes soon
