I was just reading a thread about private vs. Public advantage. I come from a public school and feel like I’m fighting an uphill battle trying to convince teachers about boarding school and recs. My final exams are all the week of Jan 15th and my 25% of my english project is also due then. I will be missing my exam prep week for interviews. Also, I’m managing this process pretty much on my own which I think would be less likely from a kid in private school. Is t there an advantage to being in public school in the admissions process? If any of you lot come from private school to you feel like people are supportive of you? Just so you know im definetly not against kids in private school at all;not only am I applying o one (obviousl) but I attended several for 5 years of my education. Imjust curious to how being in public/private school has affected everyones admission process so far?

uhhhh…well when I gave them the recs they told me how good this would be for me and that they knew I would get into one of these school because I deserved it(not trying to sound that I will) …but i would like to see if this differ’s from a private school kid also…
like are the teacher’s more understanding because you are in the admission process?

Well my teachers were all like ‘We know you’ll get in’ but I kind of felt like they couldn’t give me as detailed a rec as my private school teacher could have. I don’t blame them at all with 40 kids a class, they have to focus on the kids who are at risk of failing not kids who could probably pass the final exam before they entred the room (well probably not in french or algebra but you know what I mean0. Also they aren’t familiar with the sort of recs or know what the ‘school wants to hear’ as well as many private school teachers would.

yeah, so true, and there’s so many distractions from the kids in my class(the honor’s kids seem so much cockier) so yeah, i feel that private school kids might have the advantage

Our Giftd classes and normal are mixed… All you get for being in Gifted is a couple of extra questions onn tests and a groovy GT next to your subject on your report lol

hahaha lol…
what type of math do you take?

Im only in Algebra… They put all the new kids in the bottom group, they wanted to put me in Pre-Algebra but with a lot of persussion and a good test. I was admited INto Algebra. I wanted Geometry but because Algebra is a graduation requirement you cant skip it.

Yay!
good for you :)

I’m also in Algebra…is that the only class where it is not mixed?

Yes, it is! I hope they don’t discriminate cause we’re in Algebra. Im not a big Math person Im much better at English/social studies/writing. Not that I fail at math but my talents lie elsewhere lol. And my fellow QofL you need to clear your inbox, you’ve reached the 50 capacity!

yeah me too…English is soooo easy, I mean how do you fail that class?
lol

and I just did :D

English if cool but history is awesome we spend the whole period just discussing stuff and I love it.

I would enjoy History more but my teacher like spits when she talks and shes loud and annoying…also I hate that she gives us projects every week(no joke)…

really all we have to do is read the textbook and talk in class and pass the tests. My favourite/easiest things for school: reading, discussing and writen tests. I detest busywork and big projects.

tell me about it…that’s why that’s probably my least favorite class :/
