Applicants to Vanderbilt from class of 2017

Hey guys!
This thread is for people to talk with others who are applying to Vanderbilt from the class of 2017 through the application process.
Best of luck to everyone!

I’m so excited to apply!

Do you think they place more weight on the ACT composite score or the sub scores? I have a 32 composite (34 E, 33 S, 33 R, 26 M) which I know is on the lower end for composite score. I’m really scared that my 26 on the math section will be a detriment to my application

@wildone17 composite is more important I believe. A 32 is low end for Vandy fyi.

@Senior2016M I know. It’s in the mid 50% but I’m planning on retaking it. Thanks for the response!

I would suggest two things before you end up very busy as a senior. Do the ACT 10 Real exam math sections. Study the answers and do not time yourself for the first two or three. Focus on comprehension of getting to the right answer quickly. Then time the tests. The ACT is a long exam and rewards stamina and good use of time. Secondly, consider taking an SAT subject test in math. Math Level One is not as favored by students targeting engineering or science colleges that are selective, so keep in mind that the curve is kind of unforgiving on Level One and that the pools of students are not the same in each subgroup. I would pick the test you might feel best taking on. I remember my sons lost points on math they had taken in middle school! you really have to remaster the basics as well as the tougher stuff.

might be a place you could kick it up a notch in math. They are shorter exams. Their prep books are matched to them so use the prep books you may want to shake things up and focus on the math test prep only. I don’t think I would bother with the SAT since you did well in all areas but Math on the ACT. Also, carve out time for these exams by making sure you get decent rest during the test dates. Seniors get pretty ragged and are awfully busy. Remember, Vandy is a reach college for high test score students. They just have a ton of applicants. Obviously you are very college ready and that is no reflection on you. Always get attached to at least one match college you can afford.

Thank you for the advice!! @Faline2
