I want to do the Play-Doh/Plato one or the Dreaming/Living one.

I am doing Play-Doh/Plato as well. I have written like three different essays so far, starting over with the same idea. I know once time starts to run out it will be easier to write. Good luck.

I want to do either the Play-Doh/Plato or the scientific observation one :D

So stumped on all of them…looking at the list hurts my brain
WHAT DOES “Don’t write about reverse psychology” MEAN?!

Pretty much, write what you want to, I guess without referring to it? I have no clue.

It’s supposed to be ironic. “Don’t write about reverse psychology.” So basically, “Write about reverse psychology.” It’s reverse psychology! Get it? (: It’s definitely my favorite of this year’s batch; I was giggling to myself for at least ten minutes.

But of course, that doesn’t restrict you to writing about reverse psychology. The beauty of a Uchicago essay prompt is that what the author means by the prompt is much less important than what the prompt means to you.

Hahaaaa I’m so stupid.^ Makes sense.

Yeah it was quite witty of the admissions to pick that one
I guess no 6 might be this year’s highlight essay

I’m probably going to write about the living/dreaming one or the scientific method.

I half-suspect that the admissions office just added number six to amuse themselves and prospective applicants. As far as I know, there has only ever been five questions, with the “adventurous inquiry” one always coming last.

I don’t think they expect it to be a widely answered prompt, but of course, we are talking about Uchicago, so its applicants will surely come up with something, maybe for no other than that “it’s there.”

I’d love to read some on the [Post Your essay](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-chicago/164537-post-your-essay.html) thread in the spring.

I have lots of ideas floating around in my head for the Dreaming one but I’m a terrible writer. Thank God I have months for this.

Haha, I knew it was intended to be funny. I was just wondering how anyone, if anyone at all, would go about answering it. They probably have fun weeding through the crazy questions and picking the ones that appear on the supplement.

I am almost positive I will be doing option 6. UChicago is a high reach for me so Im willing to take the risk.

@ coocoocachoo, oh I know I love that thread. I wrote mine on the nonscientific method and was happy with how it turned out…I’m struggling much more with the Why UChicago one even though I LOVE (no, seriously, LOVE) UChicago, and I don’t know why.

YellowDaisies I agree, I don’t know what I’m going to say in the first essay out of fear that they’ll think I’m just telling them what I think they want me to write.

Especially considering I wont have the privelage of ever seeing the campus unless I’m accepted, which is higly unlikely :(

How is everyone formatting their essay? I’m asking this because it doesn’t give a word count, only “1 or 2 pages”

It looks like I’m going to fill up 2 pages but I’m writing double spaced on 12 font Times New Roman. Is that too short?

@eric2dea - Don’t worry too much about the college visit…the info session and tour weren’t especially helpful. I already knew about everything that was covered during the info session just through my own research, especially testimonies written by students on CC (which is surprising because I usually find info sessions and tours extremely helpful). But I will tell you that the campus is GORGEOUS. Rockefeller made all the buildings out of limestone so that they would look older than they were (limestone weathers quickly) and the buildings are covered in ivy, and there’s tons of green space. It really is gorgeous. But besides finding out how amazing the campus is (like I needed to like UChicago more…) there wasn’t anything that I really learned from visiting, so don’t let that get you down. Best of luck! Go UChicago applicants of 2012 :)

I think I’m doing the “write your own question” essay :)

How long is your Optional “Favorite Things” supplement? It says 1-2 paragraphs, but mine swelled into a page (about 4 paragraphs)… I hate to massacre it, because - more than any of my other essays - it expresses me, but I guess I’ll have to…
