I am currently a high school senior applying for college. I have a situation that’s sort of different from most of what I’ve read here.
Currently I am enrolled full time in a correspondence school, The American School. I’ll be graduating with an accredited diploma from them. I live in New York State, where the home school laws are strict. Every quarter, my dad has fo submit a description of all the work I did that quarted to the local high school, and they have to approve it. I also take IOWA tests at the end of each year in place of the normal exams that refular students take.
On top of the correspondence school, we also do a few other school-related activities. I’ll be receiving a transcript from The American School but I’d like for colleges to see the other things I’ve done as well. Should I have my dad (guidance counselor) create our own transcript instead, and just include the classes I’ve taken from TAS? Or, would I be better off submitting the official transcript? Also, should I apply as a homeschooled student or as one enrolled in a private school (TAS is a private correspondence school)? And what about the local high school approving my work, would they have a transcript on record that I should submit instead?
I realize I’ll probably have to figure most of this out myself but if anyone here has had a similar homeschool experience and knows what works best please let me know! I’m having an awfully confusing time figuring out what I should tell colleges and what I should be submitting to them. Thanks!
