Well, I applied 1/1 and my application was complete 1/25. Went into "Folder Pulled, Committe read" since 1/30.. Gettin sort of frustrated because I have other decisions with me and I'm hanging... waiting on this..

Guess the letters should be mailed by around 15th?

Yes. If possible, call the admissions office and ask to be transferred to the HUB. They usually have better people there and they can answer more of your personal questions.

You can even tell them how you have other decisions waiting and you would really like to get your decision (since it has been read since february).

Don't you know why they hold all decisions until late March instead of sending them out earlier? They want to build up both the suspense and the students' expectations. This way, more people may want to accept and agree to pay their whopping $34,000 tuition.

Interesting theory but I'm not quite sure that is their thought process.

If anything, this hurts their yield as many people have already sent deposits in to other schools.

They've done this last year too (no tuition increase) and other schools this year also withhold decisions until they are all ready. CMU is not really "holding" decisions as I work in the admissions office and there are STILL many unfinished applications as well as unfinished decisions. 3,000+ extra apps is more paperwork than you think and I would think this has been the main cause of some of the slowdown.

PS: If your post was sarcasm or a joke then forgive me as i am pretty bad at detecting such things over the internet.

Also I think some people HAVE received decisions from CMU. These applicants are usually very clear rejectees or acceptees. I'm pretty sure most of you will receive decisions in a timely order :)

hahaha... not all decisions are out so the names are not categorized in order (alphabetical). It would probably take days to find just your name :)

2,500 is annually yes. We had a discussion about the increase here on this board a while ago. It puts CMU on part with some Ivy league schools as far as tuition goes and overall tuition for the year is about 47k.

However, CMU gives massive aid/scholarship/loans if they like you enough.

I got an academic scholarship and my roommate got about 10k in loans and 20k in grants. He was not really a good student either (First semester gpa below 2.00 and HS gpa below 3.5).

so you are freshman, and you are on the CMU board and you also help with admissions??

$47K is pretty expensive.. I probably won't be getting much of a financial aid package anyway... considering im filing returns slightly on the higher side.. So this could get expensive :(
