Application fee waiver rejected?

Anyone here have their application fee waiver rejected before? Or heard about such cases?

After receiving a application fee waiver rejection from Yale, I'm deeply worried that all the other universities that I've applied to would reject me for my fee waiver request too.

My family of 7 (including me, siblings, parents, grandmother) has an annual income of $78,000.

I'm not too sure what's being considered as a low income family in the US, but it has been a very costly process for my parents especially with my ill grandmother, so I really don't want to burden them any further.
I'd really like to hear your opinions if my family's income would not be accepted for fee waivers?

Your family income seems high to expect a fee waiver. I also wonder what country you’re in because I know that in many countries $78 k a year would be wealthy even for a family of 7.

A quick Google, and I found that to qualify for some scholarships for poor students in Hawaii, a family of 7 needs a yearly income of $55,200 or less a year. Hawaii probably has a higher cost of living than does any other U.S. state.

Are you an international?

Each college sets its own rules for an application fee waiver but for US students many follow NACAC guidelines, see http://www.nacacnet.org/CareerDevelopment/Resources/Documents/AppFeeWaiver09.pdf</a> for which a family of 7 would qualify if taxable income is about $50,000 or less or adjusted gross income is about $85,000 or less. However, for internationals each college sets its own rules and may or may not follow those NACAC guidelines in determining the income level.

Note that if you are a senior who already applied by sometime in Jan or before, and are simply waiting for decison on admission then if the other colleges have not already rejected your fee waiver then there is a decent chance that you are safe.
